Job Description

The mission of the University of Missouri-Kansas City Resources, Intervention, Support, and Education (RISE) office is to strengthen the University and community response to sexual misconduct, exploitation, power-based relationship abuse, and stalking through the provision of support services, crisis intervention, and advocacy for survivors/victims. RISE also offers related training, educational programming, and outreach to the campus and Kansas City communities.

The Outreach and Prevention Education Coordinator operates as a member of the RISE team, a component of the Office of Equity & Title IX, and works in collaboration with the Women’s Center, LGBTQIA Programs and Services, Multicultural Student Affairs, Residential Life, and other University offices, as well as UMKC student groups and community organizations in the Kansas City metro area, to assist with the coordination of prevention and response efforts at UMKC and the community at large.

Responsibilities:
  • Coordinates and implements current prevention and awareness programming, to include events such as the Clothesline Project, the Empty Chair Campaign, and Domestic and Sexual Violence Awareness Months
  • Develops prevention and awareness programming based on best practices and data-driven research, when available
  • Serves as a knowledgeable resource on issues of sexual misconduct and exploitation, domestic/relationship abuse, stalking, and other forms of interpersonal violence, providing individual and group consultation and training
  • Assists in creating and implementing RISE’s outreach and marketing efforts, including developing content and updating RISE’s online presence via institutional webpages and social media
  • Provides program assessment and outcome data as needed
  • Acts as a confidential resource to survivors/victims of sexual misconduct and exploitation, domestic/intimate partner relationship abuse, stalking, and other forms of interpersonal violence
  • Aids members of the campus community in securing academic, housing, work, and/or safety measures as appropriate
  • Provides referrals to services as applicable, including community response partners, mental health and medical providers, legal services, law enforcement agencies, local courts, etc.
  • Represents RISE on University and community committees as needed
  • Completes other duties as assigned
  • Evening and weekend hours are required
  • Travel may be required
Minimum Qualifications

A Bachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience and at least 3 years of experience from which comparable knowledge and skills can be acquired is necessary

Preferred Qualifications
  • Master’s degree in College Personnel/Student Affairs, Social Work, Counseling, or related field
  • Experience in higher education, program planning, and/or working with non-profit organizations
  • Green Dot Instructor Certification
  • Strong public speaking skills as well as solid writing, analytical, and organizational skills
  • Ability to prioritize and manage multiple demands
  • Ability to delegate and oversee multiple projects to completion
  • Experience developing programs from initial idea to implementation
  • Proficiency with MS Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint and internet applications, including WordPress
  • Demonstrate commitment and ability to meet the needs of a diverse population with a focus on equity and inclusiveness
  • Experience in domestic violence or sexual assault victim advocacy and bystander intervention training

This position begins at $47,476 and will be commensurate with experienc,education, and internal equity
