The Specialist will provide disability related counseling to SBCC students; facilitate the interactive process to identify functional limitations, fundamental requirements and reasonable accommodations to ensure equal educational access; provide and document appropriate services and maintain accurate records; refer students to other appropriate campus and community services; provide curriculum development and instruction that focuses on access and retention; implement the California Community Colleges' Learning Disabilities Eligibility & Services Model by assessing students to determine eligibility for disability-related accommodations and services; provide expertise to the college as a Learning Disabilities Specialist by advocating for students, consulting with colleagues, and collaborating with instructors; develop disability awareness training for the campus and community; consult with DSPS colleagues, faculty and administration regarding access to facilities, technology, instructional programs, college information, and student services; provide expertise for college personnel in meeting the guidelines of federal and state disability laws; participate in the governance of the college via committee assignments; engage in professional development activities that include diversity, equity, accessibility, inclusion and social justice; participate fully in department responsibilities.
