The School of Social Transformation, an interdisciplinary unit at Arizona State University (http://sst.asu.edu), invites applications for a full-time tenure-eligible Assistant or Associate Professor position in Women and Gender Studies.  The anticipated start date is Fall 2022. Preference will be given to candidates whose research and perspective is feminist, queer, interdisciplinary, and intersectional, and strongly addresses sexuality studies, broadly construed. Areas of teaching and research can include but are not limited to: sexuality in diasporic communities; sexuality, health, biopolitics; transnationalism, borderlands, and globalization; queer and/or trans of color theory, practice, and resistance; sexuality and justice, including disability/crip theory, and violence.

We seek a scholar who can teach the foundational course of our Women and Gender Studies B.A. and M.A. programs, Ph.D. Gender Studies programs, LGBTQ Studies undergraduate and Sexuality Studies graduate certificate programs. The candidate is expected to build curricula for these programs as well. Examples of courses include: graduate seminars in Queer of Color Critique and Sexuality Studies and Undergraduates courses in Queer Theory and Women and Sexuality.

About the Department

The School of Social Transformation (SST) was founded in 2009, bringing together diverse scholars, students and communities in African and African American Studies, Asian Pacific American studies, social and cultural pedagogy, justice and social inquiry, and women and gender studies. As one of many transdisciplinary schools unique to Arizona State University, SST focuses on transformational knowledge, including creative research approaches to themes and questions embedded in broader historical, social and cultural contexts. SST is home to 48 tenure-track and 13 non-tenure eligible faculty members that serve 600+ undergraduate majors and over 100+ doctoral and masters-level students in 19 graduate programs spanning an array of research areas. SST faculty represent humanities, social sciences, and interdisciplinary fields (including creative arts), and they are distinguished nationally and internationally for their scholarship. The faculty trains students to think, do research and teach in more complex ways about race, ethnicity, gender, class, sexuality, social and economic justice, immigration status, and labor; to be accountable to the communities with which they engage; and to foreground social transformation on local, national, and global levels. The school’s location in Arizona, where demographic changes and social issues reflect the challenges taking place nationally, especially highlights the relevance of the school’s mission.

Minimum Qualifications:

• Ph.D. in Women, Gender and Sexuality Studies or related fields by time of appointment.
• Ability to teach core courses on the undergraduate and graduate levels
• Potential for excellence in teaching, advising, and mentoring undergraduate and graduate students
• Active research agenda in the field of Women, Gender and Sexuality Studies commensurate with experience

Desired Qualifications:

• Evidence of scholarly publishing and an ongoing research trajectory focused on women, gender, and sexuality studies commensurate with experience
• Evidence of, or interest in, teaching in person and online
• Demonstrated success in meeting the needs of diverse student populations and/or diverse communities
• Demonstrated interest in, or record of achievement, of external funding (fellowship, grants, etc).
