The Department of Animal Science in the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences at Iowa State University in Ames, Iowa seeks applicants for a 12-month tenure-track Associate Professor/Professor rank with an emphasis in swine nutrition. Position responsibilities are approximately 65% in research, 17.5% in Extension and Outreach, 12.5% in teaching, and 5% service. It is expected that responsibilities in these areas to be closely supportive of each other. The successful candidate will be expected to have a nationally recognized research program that supports the swine sector. This will include conducting impactful, applied and basic research, while developing and training graduate students employable by swine sector stakeholders, along with an effective Extension and Outreach effort working closely with the Iowa and U.S. pork sector. The successful candidate will also contribute to swine related teaching at the undergraduate and graduate levels in alignment with departmental needs.

The incumbent will be the inaugural recipient of the Dr. John Patience Chair in Applied Animal Nutrition. Opportunities exist to collaborate with scientists in a variety of disciplines within the Department of Animal Science, the Iowa Pork Industry Center, and with faculty in other Departments and Colleges, as well as nearby federal agencies.

Required Qualifications:

Applicants are required to have an earned doctorate in animal science, nutrition or a related discipline with emphasis in swine nutrition and meet the qualifications for tenure at ISU. Candidates will be considered for associate professor or professor rank based on previous experience relative to the ISU policies for tenured faculty.

 

Preferred Qualifications:

Candidates should address each of the following in their application materials to demonstrate their current ability or potential ability to develop:

(1) Ability in swine nutrition research as evident by a scholarly publication record or impact on the swine sector,

(2) Understanding of and interaction with the swine sector,

(3) Creation and delivery of outreach and/or education programs in pork production and management systems,

(4) Demonstrated effectiveness in a team-based, collaborative environment to solve problems, 

(5) Ability to establish an extramurally funded research program,

(6) Track record of placing trainees into positions of influence in the swine sector, 

(7) Effectiveness in teaching and training students,

(8) Ability to articulate a strong vision for an effective swine nutrition program.
