Assistant Professor of Political Science- Public Law or Judicial Studies and Pre-law Advisor 
The Department of Political Science and Public Administration at the University of North Carolina, Pembroke seeks a detail-oriented assistant professor in public law, judicial studies, or American courts and judicial systems who will also function as the pre-law advisor for the department.  The area of specialization is open, but preference will be given to candidates who can teach at least one of the following courses: Judicial Processes, Constitutional Law, Constitutional Law of Individual and Equity Rights, or Criminal Procedures.

Duties as the pre-law advisor are an essential element of this position.  As the liaison between the university and the Law School Admissions Council, this position will help provide advising for both matriculation from UNCP for pre-law concentration students within the Department of Political Science and Public Administration as well as the law school application process for both students within the department and from the broader university.   As a minority serving institution, the university continues to foster active relationships with law schools within the state to provide opportunities for underrepresented populations within the legal community.  The person hired for this position will be expected to maintain and continue to seek partnerships for these types of opportunities and experiences. 

UNCP is a regional university that emphasizes excellence in teaching.  This position has a 4-4 teaching load, with the ability to have some accommodations for research.  Courses will include a guaranteed rotation of American National Government and some configuration of upper division courses within the area of specialty. Preference will be given to candidates who demonstrate an aptitude or interest in teaching styles that incorporate writing-based exercises in critical thinking and professional writing within the discipline and would be interested in teaching the department’s writing in the discipline course.

To be considered for this position, candidates must have a terminal degree in their field, and preferences will be given to those who hold a Ph.D. in political science or are ABD with a clear date of completion.

* Previous teaching experience.
Evidence of familiarity with law school admissions or advising
