DEPARTMENT SUMMARY:

As the center of campus intellectual discovery, the Sacramento State University Library promotes teaching, learning, research, and scholarly communication at the University by integrating the Library with student success programs and instruction. One of twenty-three libraries in the California State University System, the Sacramento State Universality Library holds over 1.4 million volumes, comprised of print and electronic monographs and serials, and is a U.S. Government Depository. The Library's mission is to inspire excellence in teaching, learning, and scholarly activities.

The University Library is undergoing rapid transformation with a forward-thinking vision and a deep commitment to improving the campus learning environment. POSITION DETAILS:

This is a probationary, 12-month, tenure-track position at the Senior Assistant/Associate Librarian rank with an expected start date of Spring 2022; salary commensurate with qualifications and experience. Librarians in the CSU system enjoy full faculty status and as such are eligible for campus service opportunities, sabbatical and other leaves, and additional benefits. Librarians are represented under Unit 3 of the California Faculty Association (CFA). Excellent benefits, including medical, dental, and vision plans; generous paid leave (24 vacation days and one personal holiday per year and one day of sick leave per month); and membership in CALPERS, the largest retirement system in the country. Library faculty must demonstrate professional competence, scholarly and/or creative achievement, and service to the University and community in order to meet university requirements for tenure and promotion.

JOB DUTIES:

Under the general direction of the Head of Research & Instruction Department, the Fine and Performing Arts Librarian is the primary contact for the Department of Art, the Department of Theatre and Dance, and the School of Music. The Fine and Performing Arts Librarian will be responsible for providing high-quality services including course-related library instruction; effective and scalable discipline-specific online instruction modules, research guides, and/or other learning objects; reference and research consultation in person or using communication technologies.

The Librarian evaluates information needs and plans, implements, and assesses initiatives that support fine and performing arts faculty and students across campus. Maintains an awareness of trends in digital humanities. Explores new modes of content creation, archiving and delivery, in the areas of art, art history, theater, dance, and music.

The Fine and Performing Arts Librarian is responsible for collection development in assigned subjects and coordinates with other liaison librarians and library departments in special projects, such as journal cancellations, major purchase decisions, or major withdrawal/transfer projects of bound journal volumes or books.

The Fine and Performing Arts Librarian contributes to library-wide decision-making and serves on Library committees as needed.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  1. American Library Association accredited Master's degree or ALA-approved international equivalent.
  2. Two years of professional library experience or bachelor's or master's degree in studio art, art history, music, theater, or dance.
  3. Knowledge of or experience with library research resources from any of the following areas: art, art history, music, theater, or dance.
  4. Demonstrated interest and/or engagement in information literacy and instructional design.
  5. Familiarity with current trends and technologies in library and information science, particularly as they relate to fine and performing arts.
  6. Demonstrated oral, written, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
  7. Strong commitment to equity and inclusion and the demonstrated ability to work effectively and collegially with students, faculty, and staff from diverse backgrounds and identities.


PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  1. Knowledge or experience in providing informational literacy instruction in arts-related fields, in particular applying the ACRL Framework for Information Literacy for Higher Education.
  2. Experience with outreach, marketing, and promotion of library services to the campus and community.
  3. Experience with assessment of library services to the students and teaching faculty
  4. Experience with or knowledge of collection development particularly in the fine and performing arts.
  5. Knowledge of or experience with reference and research consultations.
  6. Knowledge of open educational resources, affordable learning solutions, intellectual property rights, and open publishing options.
  7. Familiarity with the digital humanities.
  8. Experience working in academic library setting.
