Position Summary:
This position is a customer service based employee that is responsible for the safe, efficient and reliable transportation of students in accordance with current Middlebury College policies and procedures. Middlebury College Transportation Drivers are expected to conduct themselves in a professional manner in all aspects of the job.

Essential Functions:
Offer is contingent upon successful completion of a criminal background check.

· Operates college vehicles/equipment in accordance with current Vermont state laws and regulations as well as Middlebury College policies and procedures.· Follows instructions and directions communicated by the Business Office or Department of Public Safety staff, such as DPS telecommunications or Business Operations Manager.· Follows established routes or respond to requests from DPS telecommunications for unscheduled pick-ups or drop-offs.· Treats all students in a courteous, friendly and professional manner to ensure exceptional customer service regardless of age, sex, race, color, gender or culture. (Required on-line training in accordance with current Middlebury staff)· Assists student passengers in boarding and exiting vehicle, as needed.· Assists with loading, unloading and moving items as needed, as needed.· Accurately completes driver trip log for each shift with information including vehicle number, number of passengers, pick-up and drop-off times, mileage, etc.· Keeps interior and exterior of vehicle neat and orderly.· Learns and remembers locations of various destination points. · Reports any incident that involves injury to any passenger, pedestrian or third-party property or accident resulting in damage immediately to the Department of Public Safety and local law enforcement agency.· Completes Middlebury College (on-line) Driver Training Programs and successfully completes a Class 2 road test.· Conducts a visual safety check of the vehicle prior to the beginning of assigned shift and reports any concerns. Reports any mechanical issues immediately to the auto shop.

General Responsibilities:
May perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications
Education:

High school diploma or equivalent required.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Ability to operate a vehicle in a safe manner.Excellent cognitive and decision-making skills.Knowledge of geography and changing road conditions.
Valid drivers license required as well as ability to get college driver’s license.

Experience:
Prior professional driving experience helpful.

Physical Demands:
Must physically be able to lift up to 25 lbs. Must be able to push and pull up to 25 lbs. occasionally. Requires stooping, bending and reaching. This job requires sitting for long periods of time.
