The Pharmaceutical Research Institute at Albany College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences is a research and development institute dedicated to cutting-edge research, pharmaceutical services and education in partnership with pharmaceutical and biotechnology companies, and academic and research centers in New York State, nationally and worldwide. 
 
The Research Assistant would have a role in the medicinal and synthetic organic chemistry support of PRI research goals. The Research Assistant is also expected to work in conjunction with a research manager to initiate, plan, and carry out exploratory research projects. The major responsibilities of this position are initial synthesis and gram scale up of active pharmaceuticals, quantitative analyses using HPLC and other analytical techniques. Required Qualifications • PhD in Medicinal Chemistry, Organic Chemistry or related field 
• Develop, validate and execute efficient synthetic methods to synthesize materials for biological evaluation 
• Prepare for efficient scale 
• Identify structure and purity of products using NMR, Mass Spec, HPLC, and other analytical techniques 
• Efficiently multitask on several related synthesis projects 
• Work with other PRI staff members and write research reports and manuscripts, present results at weekly lab meetings and planning sessions Preferred Qualifications • Experience in synthetic organic and/or medicinal chemistry. 
• Ability to scale up active compounds with high purity, identify structure using NMR and Mass Spectroscopy. 
• Ability to work independently on routine experiments, and apply scientific principles to aid in the design and execution of exploratory projects. 
• Ability to conduct experiments with a high degree of accuracy and precision. 
• Experience handling chemicals in the lab according to current safety regulations and guidelines. 
• Knowledge of Good Laboratory Practice (GLP). 
• Good communication skills and ability to express ideas in a concise and clear manner, both verbally and in written form. Physical Demands Office/Lab Environment: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is not substantially exposed to adverse environmental conditions. Adherence to safe working standards is required.
