Job Description:

APPOINTMENT: August 2022

RESPONSIBILITIES: Teach Introduction to Physical Anthropology and Archaeology, which provides a survey of methods and discoveries in both fields; Introduction to Cultural Anthropology, which incorporates all four fields of American anthropology; and other lower and upper division topical courses from within the current course offerings, or new courses associated with the candidate's expertise. In addition, this position also includes the coordination and delivery of the bi-annual WIU Archaeological Field School. Candidates with expertise in the archaeology and cultures of the Americas are especially encouraged to apply.

Requirements:

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: PhD in Anthropology. Candidates should demonstrate an expertise in anthropological archaeology. Commitment to building a diverse and inclusive educational environment for both on-campus and fully-online students.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Must show commitment to scholarly/research activities and evidence of ability to teach at the university level. Demonstrable experience in teaching or working with diverse student populations. Experience with online, face-to-face, and hybrid course delivery formats and the associated technologies. Noteworthy teaching experience in an academic setting is preferred.

For a degree to be considered, it must be conferred from a regionally accredited degree-granting institution of higher education (or equivalent from an international accrediting body). Unless otherwise stated, the degree must be "in hand" at the time of application.

THE DEPARTMENT: The Anthropology Program is part of the Department of Sociology and Anthropology, located on the Macomb campus. The program offers students training in the four-fields of Anthropology and offers the first fully online BA in Anthropology program at an Illinois public college/university. We have long standing relationships with regional institutions including the Field Museum of Natural History and Dickson Mounds Museum. Students have opportunities to participate in short term study abroad programs, our Archeological Field School, and federally funded research. The University's athletics program, based on the Macomb campus, sponsors 17 NCAA Division I intercollegiate men's and women's varsity sports.
