Position Information

Position Title Senior Accountant Overview
Assist with month-end closings, the annual audit process, annual tax return process, preparing reconciliations of general ledger accounts, and in maintaining the integrity of the College’s general ledger and financial reports. Essential Duties:
1. Prepare and record extensive volume of journal entries. Research, respond to, and resolve general ledger account inquiries from departments.
2. Reconcile and balance general ledger and subsidiary accounts. Perform monthly analysis of various general ledger accounts to ensure that account balances are recorded properly, making corrections on a timely basis.
3. Maintain the general ledger system, including establishing new GL accounts, opening and closing fiscal periods in the system, and other tasks. Ensure feeds from other departments are accurate and fed in a timely manner.
4. Compile information and prepare schedules for the year-end audits. Assist with the preparation year-end workpapers, financial statements, and footnotes.
Compile information and assist in the preparation of the tax return workpapers. Marginal Duties:
1. Assist with the preparation of external regulatory reporting requirements, including 1099K’s and 1042’s.
2. Participate in testing system upgrades.
3. Provide backup support to the Assistant Controller and the General Accountant as needed.
4. Participate in special projects.
5. Perform all other duties as may be required. Education and Experience Required
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting from an accredited institution required
  • Five to seven years of experience in accounting or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Knowledge of financial accounting systems and other technical accounting skills
  • Good organizational and communication skills with an emphasis on accuracy
