Job Summary

The University of Colorado Law School welcomes applications for a Director of Information Technology . The director leads all technology-related efforts for the Law School, managing IT staff and operations including classroom technology and support, CRM, system integrations, application management, server administration, security management and desktop support.

The director collaborates with partners to create strategic plans and goals, and determines how Colorado Law can best meet its business and operational goals through the acquisition and deployment of technology resources. This position creates, implements, and ensures compliance with IT policies and procedures in accordance with CU system and campus requirements, and is responsible for the implementation and support of all software, hardware, and data systems and applications in support of the myriad needs of the organization. This position collaborates with the Office of Information Technology (OIT) as well as other departments on the Boulder campus and University Information Systems (UIS).

This position reports to the Dean of the School of Law and is a member of the Dean’s Cabinet, collaboratively determining ongoing needs and the strategic direction of technology at the Law School.

What Your Key Responsibilities Will Be

Relationship Management and Service Support Delivery
  • Confer with departments within Colorado Law to understand business requirements and use this feedback to inform both strategic and day-to-day delivery of services in the most efficient and accountable way.
  • Ensure delivery of high-quality customer services that are in alignment with standards in process, design, architecture, and operations, and enable Colorado Law to meet its strategic goals and priorities.
Department Operations
  • Supervise IT department operations including classroom AV technology, CRM, endpoint security and support, server administration and application management.
  • Maintain successful communication between the campus IT departments and Colorado Law regarding all technology-related items.
  • Partner with Law School Marketing and Communications to provide applications and technical support and training for Marketing Technology systems, including film production, email marketing, and web services.
  • Manage Audio Visual vendor contracts and AV equipment.
  • Remain apprised of IT support needs for major events and the event registration system.
  • Negotiate service agreements with external vendors and OIT.
  • Responsible for user management, including granting access, security, and creation of users.
  • Collaborate with UIS, campus OIT, Colorado Law faculty, staff, and vendors on technical architecture design and IT policy including security.
Application, Web and Data Services
  • Champion and provide oversight of a wide range of data and application systems within the Law School with a desire to learn new skills and systems to enhance law school operations.
  • In collaboration with the application and web developer, evaluate and make recommendations for all user requests for custom applications, programming, reporting and other requests that fall outside the scope of normal releases.
  • Provide administration (maintenance, architecture, and backups) of web and database servers that are in the Wolf Law Building (currently five hardware servers with an additional 10 virtual servers).
  • Create and administer a big-picture data strategy for the law school and determine how to make information available to different internal and external units on campus.
  • Lead all technical aspects of the Colorado Law website and web applications, including advising on design, structure, and implementation.
Campus IT Partnership
  • Facilitate open and collaborative discussions of campus IT plans with the Office of Information Technology and Law School leadership.
  • Work with campus partners to identify and, where possible, eliminate systemic barriers to allow Law to optimize the use of various centrally provided IT solutions.
  • Serve as a member of various campus-wide technology committees that are charged with the stewardship of the campus’ research, teaching and learning, and public service missions of Law.
Supervision
  • Recruit, train, supervise, and evaluate 3-5 IT professional and technical support positions (direct) and student employees (indirect). Ensure cross-training is in place to provide redundancy in overall support services.
  • Conduct planning and coaching sessions, coordinate hiring and performance management, and manage schedule and work responsibilities.

  • This position will work primarily on campus with some flexibility for remote work hours. Some on-call work hours will be required.

What We Can Offer
  • The salary range for this position is $105,000 - $126,000 annually.

What We Require
  • Bachelor's degree in information systems, computer science or similar field. An equivalent combination of education and experience will substitute for the degree on a year-for-year basis.
  • Four years of progressively responsible experience managing technology or technology resources in an IT environment.
  • Experience supervising staff and organizing work units effectively.

  • Ability to manage complex administrative responsibilities in a setting that requires high quality, flexibility, customer service skills, the ability to learn and respond quickly, and present oneself in a professional manner.
  • Ability to manage up and down the organization in a higher education setting.
  • Ability to deliver a wide variety of technical support with a small team.
  • Ability and willingness to contribute where needed to ensure Law IT operations run efficiently and needs are met.
What We Would Like You To Have
  • Master's degree in information systems, computer science or similar field.
  • Eight or more years of professional experience in computer technology, preferably in higher education and/or academic environment.
  • Highly desirable to have some or all of the following experience:
    • Webmaster experience.
    • Application administration experience.
    • Database administration experience.
