Job Summary

The University of Colorado Boulder encourages applications for a Graphic Designer position! This position will assist the Creative Director and Senior Graphic Designer with the graphic design needs for the Athletic Department, facilitating a wide range of incoming requests while ensuring a consistent identity and tone. This role is responsible for the conceptualization, design, and production of communication and marketing materials including but not limited to: print collateral, signage, advertising, photography, environmental graphics, motion and digital graphics, and will collaborate on the successful completion of all activities, timelines, and deliverables. The Graphic Designer will also assist in a brand management capacity helping to ensure all designed materials for the department adhere to established brand guidelines. This position will also help with photo shoots and gameday needs.
This position is responsible for promoting the philosophy and objectives of the intercollegiate athletics program. This shall include adhering to the principles of the Athletic Department’s Mission Statement, Diversity and Inclusion Mission Statement, Core Values, Policies and Procedures, as well as the rules and regulations of the University, the Pac-12 Conference and the NCAA.

What Your Key Responsibilities Will Be

Graphic Design:
  • Collaborate on assigned projects and requests from the point of inception through final delivery to ensure creative concepts are adhered to and schedules are met.
  • Create effective design pieces to support CU Athletic departments/teams by using motion graphics (gifs), social media graphics, website ads, internal and external emails, print collateral, logos, flyers, posters, t-shirts, presentations, vehicle and wall wraps, promotional items, print ads, billboards, as well as additional techniques.
  • Ensure that all digital and printed materials are consistent with the Athletic Department brand and graphic standards using approved elements and assets.
  • Accurately prepare and prep (for print or web) all offset and digital print jobs applying bleeds, CMYK or RGB images, approved fonts, process and Pantone colors. Work with CU departments and external vendors to ensure standards of excellence are met (i.e. quality, content, pricing and turnaround).
  • Work closely with Creative Director and Sr. Graphic Designer to provide weekly job status updates to requesting departments to ensure timely communications on upcoming and current planned jobs.

Photography:
  • Work with Creative Director and Sr. Graphic Designer to determine and implement photography needs as they relate to marketing shoots, recruiting visits, game days, and internal needs.
  • Assist with gameday photography needs.
Collaboration:
  • Collaborate with staff creatives and design students on graphic design direction, styles and branding elements as it relates to requested projects.
  • Act as a point of contact for assigned projects and work with staff members to facilitate creative jobs, proactively address scope and expectations of each project, and connect with internal customers on the status of their projects through completion.
  • Work with outside production vendors as necessary to get quotes, production timelines, and proper delivery of art files seeing projects through to completion and delivery.
  • Help instruct and teach graphic design students as they assist with Athletic Dept. graphic design needs.

Brand Management:
  • Ensure that all athletic department designed materials adhere to established department brand guidelines.
  • Serve as a department resource for all questions related to design execution related to our brand guidelines.

File Management:
  • Make use of and help maintain our CMS (Content Management System - Trello.com) to organize, prioritize, and track workflow.
  • Manage and maintain an organized Adobe Creative Cloud digital asset library.

What We Can Offer
  • The salary range is $50,000 - $65,000 annually.

What We Require
  • Bachelor’s Degree in graphic design or related field.
  • Minimum of 1 year of graphic design experience. Internships and graduate level work experience accepted. Equivalent combination of education and experience may substitute.
What You Will Need
  • Demonstrated visual design skills (e.g. typography, color, layout, traditional offset and digital printing technologies, etc.)
  • External relationship management.
  • Organizational skills.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • High proficiency in Adobe CC, primarily Photoshop, Illustrator and In-Design.
  • Microsoft 365.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and projects.
  • Ability to succeed in a fast paced, deadline driven environment.
  • Ability to work flexible hours and possibly weekends as many games occur on weekends and/or traditional work day hours.
What We Would Like You To Have
  • Experience with Adobe After Effects (gifs).
  • General college athletics knowledge.
  • Basic understanding and working knowledge of studio and sports photography.
  • 3+ years of directly related creative design experience.
