Emporia State University is seeking highly qualified candidates for the position of Assistant Director of Recreation Services. The Assistant Director of Recreation Services is responsible for the administration and management of the Intramural Sports Program by providing intramural leagues, intramural activities, and special events for both individual and group participation opportunities for the university community. Responsibilities include the areas of administration, student/staff hiring development, program development, program promotion, and public relations. The Assistant Director of Recreation Services reports to the Director of Recreation Services. This position is an unclassified administrative appointment, working full-time year-round.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Administration and management of the Intramural Sports programs by providing intramural leagues, activities, and special events for both individual and group participation opportunities for the university community.
- Hire, develop, evaluate, and schedule student employees including approximately 30 intramural and facility staff members, 10-15 recreation and health promotion practicum students, and 2 Graduate Assistants.
- Payroll administration for all student employees. Collect payroll information for the department biweekly. Review the collected information to make sure it is complete and accurate. Ensure that student employees complete necessary documentation before working.
- Oversee all the program promotion and public relations for the department. Coordinate regular updates to the departmental website and manage social media accounts.
- Assist in the program development, planning, and management for new initiatives for the campus community.
- Ensure compliance of programs with policies, procedures, and standards. Ensure the safety and well-being of all participants in the facility.
- Collaborate with other campus entities for cooperative programming opportunities.
- Responsible for assessments of the intramural sports program.
- Contribute to the University Strategic Plan by providing feedback and assisting in the development of the Strategic Plan, contributing to work groups and/or committees to ensure the Student Affairs Division is striving towards the outlined goals and ensuring programs and offerings offered through Recreation Services are in line with the Strategic Goal.
Qualifications:
Preferred qualifications include a master’s degree in Recreation
Administration or a related field and previous experience in a
university recreational setting. Minimum qualifications
include a bachelor’s degree in Recreation or a related field; and
at least 2 years’ experience in a supervisory position in a
recreational setting. Excellent oral and written
communication skills and strong organizational skills as well as
the ability to work collaboratively and effectively with diverse
groups including students, faculty, administrators, and external
service providers are necessary.
Our ideal candidate has passion for providing exceptional customer service, experience in officiating and training officials, knowledge of league scheduling programs such as IMLeagues. Applicants should have demonstrated background in the training of sports officials and knowledge of NIRSA sport rules.
