Job Description Summary

The College of Forestry, Wildlife and Environment ( CFWE ) and the College of Veterinary Medicine at Auburn University invites applications for an assistant/associate professor position in disease ecology. This is a 9-month tenure-track position with 65%/35% research/teaching responsibilities and a joint appointment in both the College of Forestry, Wildlife and Environment (75%) and College of Veterinary Medicine (25%). The successful candidate for this joint position should demonstrate strengths in interdisciplinary and multisectoral collaborations and is expected to collaborate with research teams on campus who have a broad range of expertise. Some examples of the disciplines the candidate may engage with include: ecology, hydrology, climate change science, socioeconomics, bioinformatics, conservation genetics, conservation governance, animal science, vector biology, public health, pathobiology, biogeochemistry, forest health, osteopathic medicine, biological sciences, health equity and environmental justice, and other disciplines related to the ecology and emergence of infectious diseases in humans, animals, and ecosystems.

Teaching duties include undergraduate and graduate introductory and/or subject matter specialty courses in disease ecology and contributing to the One Health graduate certificate program.

Minimum Qualifications

A PhD in biology, environmental/public health, or related field at the time employment begins and expertise in the ecology of infectious diseases (particularly those which are zoonotic) that can be applied to humans and animals (both domestic and wildlife). Experience in working within interdisciplinary teams and a proven track record of publication in high-quality peer-reviewed journals is required. Evidence of acquisition of research funding is highly desirable.

The candidate selected for this position must be able to meet eligibility requirements for work in the United States at the time appointment is scheduled to begin and continue working legally for the proposed term of employment.

Excellent written and interpersonal communication skills are required.
