The University of Lynchburg, a private regional university, located in the beautiful foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains in central Virginia is seeking a full-time Systems and Technical Services Librarian to join our Library team.
The Systems and Technical Services Librarian reports to, is supervised by, and evaluated by the Director of the Library. The evaluation of work performance will be ongoing and will be carried out by the Director of the Library. It will include the specific duties and responsibilities of this position description plus employee attitude and general working behavior.

Job Purpose: Library systems administration, Oversight of Technical Services
Specific Job Duties:
Systems and Technical Services
-
Responsible for administration and
functionality of library management systems (Ex Libris
Alma/Primo)
Exercises oversight responsibility
for technical services functions and staff – cataloging,
acquisitions, binding, microforms, periodicals, processing, and
database maintenance
Performs original cataloging of
library and archival resources in all formats, troubleshoots
database problems
Manages an evolving academic
collection aligned with curriculum and research needs of the
University
Provides support, documentation, and
training to other librarians and staff working with component parts
of library systems
Serves as principal systems liaison
to and resource person for library staff, campus constituencies,
and systems-related vendors
Prepares statistical and analytical
reports to support library initiatives
Remains current with new
technological developments relating to library systems and
technical services
Performs other related duties as may
be required.

Provides instruction, reference, and
information services to students and faculty.
Serves as a liaison to assigned
academic departments
Serves on campus-wide workgroups and
committees

Schedule:

8:30 am - 5:00 pm (7.5 hours/day with
some evening and weekends to meet needs of department may be
required
Experience/Skills:

Ability to communicate effectively
and have the ability to understand, comprehend and follow
directions
Must have good teamwork skills
Physical Demands:
-
Much sitting, with some standing and
walking. Requires moving large numbers of heavy books often and
shelving them. Tasks such as working at a computer keyboard involve
extensive wrist and hand movements.
Required Qualifications:
-
Related experience in library
systems, technical services, and/or database maintenance experience
in an academic library.
Education:
-
Master’s degree in Library Science or
Information Science (ALA Accredited)
