Job Summary

The Financial Aid Counselor will counsel and assist both prospective and current students/parents on the financial aid process. The position will review and perform FAFSA verification for selected students and will counsel students on missing information. The Financial Aid Counselor will assist in all customer service efforts in the Office of Student Financial Services. Flexible work arrangements such as remote work will be considered.

Essential Functions
  • Counsel parents and students on financial aid, verification, and billing
  • Conduct appointments in person, virtually, and over the phone
  • Manage incoming communications to the office via phone, email, and other methods
  • Attend to walk-ins and provide customer service for in-office guests
  • Helps with day-to-day campus employment and Federal Work Study processes
  • Assist Assistant Director with Student Financial Services communications
  • Receive and review required student documentation related to verification and other processes
  • Assist with performing verification processes for all selected students
  • Assists with financial aid awarding as needed
  • Participates in on-campus functions/activities as needed
  • Attends trainings and conferences in key areas and maintains an understanding of trends
Other Duties and Responsibilities
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • Customer service experience
  • Strong communication and technical skills
Preferred Qualifications
  • Familiarity with federal and state financial aid regulations
  • 1-2 years of experience in financial aid administration
  • Bilingual English/Spanish
  • Ellucian Colleague experience
Working Conditions/Physical Requirements

Employee is subject to indoor work, protected from weather conditions. Work is sedentary in nature and involves exerting up to 10 lbs. of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently/constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move object.
