Texas Tech University (TTU) in Lubbock, Texas is a creative and complex hub of scholarship, research, and teaching, as well as the flagship institution of the four-institution Texas Tech University System. Founded in 1923, Texas Tech is the seventh largest university in Texas with an enrollment of 40,322 in the Fall of 2020 (33,269, undergraduate; 7,053, graduate; and law students). The University is one of 94 public institutions among 131 universities and colleges in the Carnegie Classification of Institutions of Higher Education’s “Very High Research Activity” category. Through its 12 colleges and schools, Texas Tech offers 150 undergraduate, 100 graduate, and 50 doctoral degrees. The campus, which boasts Spanish Renaissance architecture, was described by American author James A. Michener as the “most beautiful west of the Mississippi until you get to Stanford” and by Stewart Mandel of Sports Illustrated as “easily one of the ten most beautiful campuses” he had seen. Recently, TTU was designated as a Hispanic-Serving Institution (one of 12 Carnegie Tier One Research institutions to achieve this distinction), opened its first international campus location in Costa Rica, and received state legislature approval and funding to establish a new School of Veterinary Medicine.

Reporting to the senior director for the center for campus life and serving as an integral member of the Student Affairs team, the director of the office off fraternity and sorority life (FSL) serves as TTU’s principal advocate for the sorority and fraternity community, which includes four councils, College Panhellenic Council (CPH), Interfraternity Council (IFC), Multicultural Greek Council (MGC), and National Pan-Hellenic Council (NPHC). The Office of FSL is responsible for leading strategic initiatives to strengthen the sorority and fraternity community at Texas Tech. The director is responsible for communication flow to students and community stakeholders; serves as a member of the Greek Accountability Team that implements and oversees the TTU Student Conduct Partnership Process; serves as TTU’s liaison to the Greek Alumni community and (Inter)National sorority and fraternity headquarters; and serves as resource for students, parent/families, faculty, staff and community and headquarters partners on issues related to sorority and fraternity life. In addition, the director is responsible for developing and implementing the Office of FSL strategic plan in collaboration with senior administrators, alumni, student leaders, national organizations, house corporations, advisors and community groups. The strategic plan will include objectives focusing on risk prevention and reduction, academic support, diversity and inclusion, and leadership development. Further, the director translates and executes TTU’s strategic vision for Fraternity & Sorority Life.

The director develops and implements appropriate programming in conjunction with Risk Intervention and Safety Education (RISE) Office and diversity and inclusion initiatives in conjunction with the Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Division and other campus partners as well as creates outreach initiatives including working with local chapter volunteers and national organizations. Further, this position collaborates with other University offices to design and implement educational efforts regarding University policy; including, hazing, alcohol and drugs, sexual violence, event planning and other risk management issues to include state mandated Clay R. Warren initiatives. Overseeing three full-time staff members and departmental operations, the director provides stewardship over an annual budget in excess of $400,000 in addition to maintaining fiscal oversight of program budgets and utilizing appropriate procurement and contracting practices to include regular review of council budgets.

The successful candidate will hold a bachelor's degree in related area required plus five years progressively responsible management experience (additional education may substitute for experience on a year for year basis).

Preferred qualifications include: a master’s degree in higher education or related field; experience with or an understanding of a large sorority and fraternity community; demonstrated experience serving diverse student populations; demonstrated group facilitation and curriculum/learning design experience; and five or more years’ experience of professional staff supervision.
