Sr.SEVIS Compliance Coordinator - (STA009075)



Coordinates institutional reporting for the Student and Exchange Visitor Information System (SEVIS) and monitors university compliance with Federal regulations. Counsels international students and scholars on immigration laws and cross-cultural adjustments.Job Duties
  1. Serves as a Designated School Official (DSO) responsible for coordinating institutional compliance with federal regulations governing international students. Also serves as an Alternate Responsible Officer (ARO) for the J Exchange Visitor program.
  2. Reconciles, verifies, monitors, and updates data reported to SEVIS. Compiles and analyzes data for reports and publications. Coordinates upgrades to systems as needed.
  3. Trains and supervises data entry personnel on SEVIS reporting procedures and develops policies and procedures on data collection processes.
  4. Creates and maintains communication systems for alerts to international students and scholars regarding their visa status. Establishes timely communications about policies and employee status with appropriate university faculty and staff.
  5. Authorizes international students and scholars, through Department of Homeland Security procedures, to receive visa status, extensions of stay, employment and practical training, reduced course loads and transfer to and from the University of Houston. Advises students who are out of status or in jeopardy of status violations.
  6. Coordinates student and scholar orientation and check-in; counsels and advises students and scholars on cultural adjustment issues.
  7. Communicates and advises academic departments on visa concerns and immigration status of international student and scholar employment.
  8. Creates training materials, coordinates employment seminars, and processes grants for international students and scholars. Conducts training and presentations for the campus community.
  9. Manages ad-hoc teams for special projects.Performs other job-related duties as required.

Qualifications :

Bachelors and 5 years experience

Requires a thorough understanding of both theoretical and practical aspects of an analytical, technical or professional discipline; or the basic knowledge of more than one professional discipline. Knowledge of the discipline is normally obtained through a formal, directly job-related 4 year degree from a college or university or an equivalent in-depth specialized training program that is directly related to the type of work being performed. Experience: Requires a minimum of five (5) years of directly job-related experience. Certification/Licensing: None.
