The JCAE Transition Coach is responsible for assisting GED, English Connection, and ESL students in succeeding in JCAE coursework and with all aspects of preparing for future success in college, in a career, and in their community. Focus includes:
- Connecting students with essential support services
(transportation, childcare, housing, food, etc.) to eliminate
barriers that might otherwise impede their progress.
- Helping students explore and research career options to
determine their career and life goals, and work with them to
develop strategies to achieve their goals.
- Supporting enrollment at JCCC (applying to the college,
applying for financial aid, preparing for placement testing,
engaging with JCCC Counselors, selecting courses, enrolling in
classes, purchasing materials and textbooks, connecting students
with JCCC resources, etc.).
- Initiates, leads, and supports marketing efforts to build
awareness and promote JCAE.
- Supporting student job search and placement.
- Collect and report student data for internal use and to meet
state reporting requirements
Required Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in related field.
Minimum of 3 years' relevant experience in adult education as an instructor and/or as an advisor, mentor, or coach.
Demonstrated student focus, with passion for serving adults in attaining basic skills and high school equivalency credentials, and for encouraging their continued pursuit of education and/or career training.
Demonstrated project management skills and effective program development and execution.
Must be proficient in Microsoft Office products including Excel, Word, Outlook and PowerPoint, and have experience with enterprise resource systems.
Strong relationship-building and communication skills (oral and written).
Demonstrated effectiveness in collaborating with peers and individuals inside and outside the program to promote program objectives and leverage resources to advance program objectives.
Ability to manage sensitive and confidential information.
Knowledge of FAFSA and financial aid options.
Available for periodic evening and weekend work as needed and occasional travel within Kansas.
This position requires 25 hours per week, and currently offices in Olathe. Work schedules are negotiable, but the TC will work Monday through Thursday with a schedule that includes morning, afternoon, and evening hours to maximize accessibility to all JCAE students.
Preferred Qualifications
Master's degree in a related field.
Knowledge of functions and processes associated with college admission, financial aid, resources for students, challenges of first-generation students.
Familiarity with JCCC departments, processes, and key staff.
