Job Description:

The Division of Communications and Creative Media at Champlain College seeks an Assistant Professor of Interactive Design and Immersive Media. The Interaction Design program, launching Fall 2022 is part of the robust collection of programs housed in the Creative Studio where students work across disciplines. Immersive Media is a theme across many of these programs. The expected start date is July 1, 2022.

The successful candidate will teach a wide range of courses related to Interaction Design and Immersive Media with the potential to take on a leadership role. The typical teaching load is four courses per semester. Small class sizes optimize instructor-student interaction; hands-on activities translate theory into practice. Because the College is entrepreneurial and market-driven, its academic programs respond to industry dynamics. Consequently, the College particularly values industry and other practical experience for its faculty and students. As a part of The Creative Studio at Champlain College, the successful candidate will need to be highly collegial and collaborative with faculty from other programs. A track record of multidisciplinary collaboration is highly sought after.

Desired skills include professional-level knowledge in the design process and implementation in one or more of the following areas: UI/UX, AR/VR/MR, and simulation. The successful candidate should also have an interest in applications of technology in areas such as health and wellness, museums, education, or serious games with experience in mobile platforms or the use of 3D real-time technology. A strong interest and/or experience in education/teaching are essential.

Requirements:

The ideal candidate will have a graduate degree in one of the following or related fields: Interactive Media, HCI, Entertainment or Serious Games, Computer Science, or Simulation. As Champlain College highly values practical experience, consideration will be given to candidates with a bachelor's degree plus significant industry accomplishments as measured by years of experience. All candidates must have at least 3 years of professional experience and be able to demonstrate a commitment to teaching, mentoring, and curriculum development.
