The Department of Computer Science at Durham University seeks to appoint a talented individual to the role of Professor, who has the ability to take a leading role in the development of the Department's research and teaching, and to fully engage in the services, citizenship and values of the University.
Durham's Department of Computer Science is rapidly expanding and over the last two years the number of staff has already grown from around 20 to 40 and is growing further. We have launched new degree programmes, developed new research areas, and in January 2021 moved into a brand new purpose built building with our colleagues in Mathematics. We are a relatively young and vibrant department where inclusivity and collegiality is at the heart of what we do. This post offers an exciting opportunity to make a major contribution to the further development of the Department.
The Department's research structure consists of five Research Groups:
- ACiD: Algorithms and Complexity in Durham
- AIHS: Artificial Intelligence and Human Systems
- NESTiD: Network Engineering, Science, and Theory in Durham
- SciComp: Scientific Computing
- VIViD: Vision, Imaging and Visualisation in Durham
We aim to strengthen our research groups AIHS, NESTiD, SciComp or VIViD, but we are also happy to receive applications from strong candidates working in other areas of Computer Science who can build links between their research and the research of these groups. The Department of Computer Science is particularly interested in receiving applications from women and black and minority ethnic candidates, who are under-represented in academic posts in the University.
