Full-time, tenure-track Assistant Professor; salary commensurate with qualifications and experience. This position requires relocation to Austin, TX.

Responsibilities include the following:

Supervise all choral activities in the Butler School of Music, leading creative and diverse students and faculty in the pursuit of performing a broad range of choral music. Actively recruit students that represent the broad and diverse global population.

Conduct the premiere choral ensemble which includes graduate and undergraduate students. Teach graduate choral conducting, repertoire classes at the graduate and undergraduate levels, and supervise graduate recitals and written documents satisfying degree requirements. Coordinate student staff in all choral responsibilities. Provide leadership in the recruitment of qualified student musicians and maintain effective relationships with alumni and choral directors throughout the nation with particular focus on the state of Texas.

Maintain a national and international performance and/or scholarship profile in choral music. Coordinate the external activities of the program, including tours, recordings, and high school choral festivals. Engage in leadership and service activities within the Conducting and Ensembles division, the Butler School and the University.

The University of Texas at Austin ranks among the finest universities in the country. The Butler School of Music, comprising some 90 faculty and approximately 600 music students, has an outstanding reputation for its performance and academic programs. Degree plans range from the bachelors to the doctoral level. Historically the choral program has offered 4 unique ensembles: Chamber Singers (24-30 singers), Concert Chorale (40-50 singers), Treble and Tenor/Bass Choruses. All choirs are open to all university students by audition. Graduate and undergraduate students sing in each ensemble.

The Austin area, known for its beauty and comfortable lifestyle, also provides many cultural advantages through its numerous arts organizations and is home to a very active and creative music scene.

Qualifications

DMA or PHD required, but outstanding professional experience will be considered. A distinguished record of teaching and performance is also required. (Experience in ensemble conducting at the university level preferred). Demonstrated experience teaching or working with diverse populations; examples might include mentoring activities, research interests, committee service, courses taught, recruitment and retention activities. Experience with ensemble supervision, rehearsal scheduling, recruitment, and budget management required.
