Job Description

Virginia Tech seeks a highly innovative, experienced, and motivated individual for the position of Associate Director of Processing Operations within the office of University Scholarships and Financial Aid. This position: provides leadership, direction, and supervises staff while managing the day-to-day administration of complex financial aid programs; works closely with the Director and Associate Directors of Client Services and Systems Operations to design and implement financial aid strategies, policies, and procedures that further the university’s strategic goals—ensuring compliance with all federal and state laws and regulations, and university policies and procedures; and, investigates, proposes, system and procedural enhancements. The position supervises select Administrative Professional (A/P) Faculty and oversees between 11 and 15 full-time staff.

There will be required hours outside of the standard work schedule at different points in the year. As a condition of hire and continued employment, individual must be in good standing on all federal student loans and must grant permission for office to access NSLDS to verify such standing.

Required Qualifications

Master’s degree or a Bachelor’s degree combined with progressively responsible experience in a highly automated environment in hiring, developing, supervising, and evaluating managerial staff. Demonstrated progressive experience with enterprise student information systems; identifying trends in data; and, executing data-informed decisions. Capable of successfully maintaining a high level of customer service for existing business functions while exploring new functional process efficiencies while navigating within the ever-evolving financial aid delivery landscape

Preferred Qualifications

Master’s degree in Higher Education, Business Administration, or a related field plus significant progressive work experience in Scholarship and Financial Aid positions at four-year public universities with enrollment that exceeds 15,000 students. Demonstrated leadership and administration of federal and state financial aid programs at a college or university; excellent knowledge and understanding of contemporary best practices in financial aid and enrollment management especially as it relates to Banner processes; extensive experience with the financial aid module of the Banner student system; excellent interpersonal and communication skills; the ability to multi-task and meet competing deadlines; and a commitment to student-focused processes and communications. Demonstrated supervisory experience. Demonstrated employment history of working collaboratively with academic and administrative areas as well as understanding of technological infrastructure of financial aid processes. Experience leading and conducting operations and business processes reviews and developing process evaluation. Comprehensive knowledge of federal Title IV financial aid programs and previous financial aid administration experience. Demonstrated ability to understand and interpret complex federal statutes and regulations. Strong command of COD, CPS, NSLDS, and financial aid processing systems. Ability to make independent decisions and exercise sound judgment. Demonstrated ability to use data analytics to support and to review business decisions.
