The Department of Neurology at the University of Maryland School of Medicine is seeking a full-time physician at the Assistant Professor, non-tenure track level to join our Movement Division. The Department of Neurology provides evaluation, treatment, and care for patients suffering from a wide range of neurological disorders including stroke, epilepsy, multiple sclerosis, Parkinson’s disease, amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), and migraine. We provide care through our inpatient and consultative services, our designated Comprehensive Stroke Center, our Level 4 Epilepsy Center, our 22-bed Neuro-Critical Care Unit, and our busy outpatient practice. The Department also provides state-of-the-art rehabilitation services. A number of departmental faculty received grant funding from the National Institutes of Health and the Veteran’s Administration to study the role of genetics in stroke, epilepsy, and Parkinson’s disease, new brain imaging modalities in multiple sclerosis, biomarkers in multiple sclerosis, and neurodevelopmental disorders such as autism and intellectual disability. Many faculty are lead investigators in clinical trials to identify new therapeutic approaches for a broad range of neurological disorders.

The appointed candidate will have clinical, teaching and administrative duties. Clinical duties will involve providing outpatient service at the faculty practice and attending on the inpatient and consultative services at the University of Maryland Medical Center. Teaching duties will involve participation in organized teaching activities for first and second-year medical students, residents and fellows. Administrative duties will consist of participation in departmental and school committees as requested by the Department Chair. Research duties will include participation in ongoing clinical trials for Movement Disorders research and seeking extramural funding for independent research. Candidates with existing funding and independent research programs will also be strongly considered.
