Department Summary
The Knight Campus for Accelerating Scientific Impact is a billion-dollar initiative designed to fast-track scientific discoveries and the process of turning those discoveries into innovations that improve the quality of life for people in Oregon, the nation and beyond. The Knight Campus, along with the Human Physiology Department, will host a new program aimed to transform human health on a global scale through the discovery and translation of the biological principles underlying athletic performance. The design team behind the program is focused on accelerating high-impact advances in human performance by leveraging the rapidly advancing fields of bioengineering, neuroscience, artificial intelligence, genetics, molecular biology, imaging, and regenerative medicine.
Position Summary
We are currently seeking applications for a Research Assistant focused on Human Performance Physiology. This is a new position within a vibrant group of research staff, graduate students, post-docs, and faculty in applied physiology and biomechanics, all working in association with the Wu Tsai Human Performance Alliance Innovation Hub at the University of Oregon. The Hub is located within the Bowerman Sports Science Center at the new Hayward Field athletic facility. Additionally, this position will work in frequent collaboration with bioengineering faculty in the Phil and Penny Knight Campus for Accelerating Scientific Impact.

The Research Assistant will be responsible for coordinating research and technical activities related to human health and performance in the Innovation Hub for the Human Performance Alliance. This position will conduct data analysis, reporting findings and discoveries in written and verbal form; and will manage, maintain and provide technical expertise for Innovation Hub equipment, protocols and programs. Additionally, the Research Assistant will be a content and technical expert for relevant shared core facility equipment, tools, and analysis.
Minimum Requirements
  • Master's degree in kinesiology, physiology, sport science, or related academic field,
    with specific experience in one or more of the following areas:
    - Indirect calorimetry (maximal and submaximal testing, running economy)
    - Cardiorespiratory modeling (VO2 kinetics)
    - Exercise/stress electrocardiography
    - Environmental physiology (altitude/hypoxia, heat stress, cold stress)
    - Body composition analysis (skinfold caliper, DEXA, Bod Pod)
    - Wearable sensors (HR monitors, GPS, IMUs, etc.)
    - Sports performance measurement and analysis techniques (load monitoring, recovery dynamics)
    Professional Competencies
  • Demonstrated strong written communications skills
    Preferred Qualifications
  • Technical, research and/or analytic experience in a corporate or university setting as an intern or an employee
  • Experience with grant writing and grant administration
  • Expertise in one of the following areas: Environmental or Performance Physiology, Machine Learning, Motion Analysis, Multiscale Modeling, Musculoskeletal Modeling, Wearable Sensors
