Position Summary: 
This position is a postdoctoral research appointment within the College of Engineering, Science, Technology and Agriculture (CESTA).

Agriculture Research Development Program (ARDP) in the College of Engineering, Science, Technology, and Agriculture (CESTA) at Central State University (CSU) is seeking a postdoctoral scientist to serve for up to five years (with annual renewal pending successful completion of outputs) to fulfill obligations for grant with the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) – SUSHI project. 

The candidate should have experience with aquaculture nutrition and feeding trials, ideally having worked with cold-water fin fish. Postdoctoral scientist is expected to design and perform procedures/techniques to evaluate industrial hemp products in fish diets. Scientist is expected to supervise and mentor student researchers. 

The successful candidate will join a growing research community at CSU, an 1890 Land-Grant in Wilberforce, OH. The candidate will possess advanced aquaculture nutrition experience. 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities: 
  • Assist the PI and the other supporting staff in experimental design; mentoring and supervision of undergraduate and graduate student researchers.
  • Assist the PI to implement research project proposals and other projects. 
  • Source ingredients; prepare fish diets; set-up and maintain aquaculture research facility; perform indoor and outdoor aquaculture nutrition experiments.
  • Care for and feed fish. This includes monitoring of fish health, routine maintenance of fish rearing systems, monitoring of water quality parameters, and biochemical analyses (e.g. enzyme assays and chemical inventory; prepare solutions and reagents for use in the laboratory according to established protocols.
  • Record and maintain experimental data; perform statistical analyses using R or other statistical software programs. 
  • Assist the PI and students in writing and submission of peer reviewed manuscripts.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

 


Working Conditions and Physical Effort:
  • Research involves daily care and maintenance of multiple pieces of equipment and fresh water/brackish water recirculating aquaculture systems. Handling and care of fish and shellfish. 
  • Grinding and mixing the feed ingredients; operation of feed manufacture equipment
  • Occasionally requires heavy lifting, pushing, or pulling of objects over 50 pounds.
  • Work environment involves some exposure to hazards or physical risks, which require some basic safety precautions.

  • Doctoral degree in Aquaculture, Fisheries, or closely related field. 
  • Demonstrated expertise in aquaculture nutrition and publication of refereed publications in the field.
  • Demonstrated experience with design of aquaculture nutrition experiments, formulation and manufacturing of experimental diets, set-up and maintenance of recirculating aquaculture systems for nutrition research.
  • Demonstrated experience with statistical analyses, including one-way and two-way ANOVAs, factorial, multivariate, and regression analyses.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Knowledgeable of data entry management and presentation skills.

 

  Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with cold-water aquaculture.
  • Experience and interest in mentoring/teaching students from diverse cultural ethnic backgrounds
  • Must be organized and detail-oriented with the ability to work under limited supervision.
  • Ability to produce outcomes under strict deadlines.
