Position Title Chemical Store Technician and Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) Technician Residency Requirement Applicants must be a Colorado resident. Job Description Under the direction of the supervisor, the Chemical Store Technician/EHS Technician develops, implements and administers programs for the acquisition, storage and distribution of hazardous materials used in connection with teaching and research on campus. The Technician is responsible for placing, receiving, inventorying, and distributing orders for chemicals on behalf of staff, faculty and students. The Technician maintains the chemical inventory and appropriate chemical storage at the Chemical Storage and Distribution Facility (CSDF).

The Technician assists the EHS department with technical work such as various field surveys, annual evacuation drills, and participates as a member of the chemical spill response team. Minimum Qualifications High school diploma or General Education Diploma (GED).
AND
Four years of experience working in a laboratory environment handling, processing and storing chemicals and hazardous materials. Basic knowledge of chemistry and laboratory equipment is essential. Must have computer skills in order to enter chemical inventory information into electronic EHS assistant software and perform basic business functions. Must be organized, possess strong attention to detail and have the ability to analyze technical information. Must possess outstanding verbal and written communication skills as well as strong interpersonal skills in order to provide outstanding customer service. Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience managing a chemical inventory and communicating chemical hazards in a university setting.

  • Certified Scientific Materials Manager – National Association of Scientific Materials Managers

  • Certified Hazardous Materials Manager - Institute of Hazardous Materials Manager

  • Completion of OSHA 40 hour Hazardous Waste Operations training and annual 8-hour re-certifications.
