Mental Health Supervisor (Clinical Coordinator)
Vineland, NJ

Leadership role overseeing the mental health operations at the CARES Institute Vineland office. Excellent opportunity to be part of a multidisciplinary team under the direction of Esther Deblinger, Ph.D., co-developer of Trauma-Focused CBT. Provide clinical and administrative supervision of mental health staff and assist with implementation of programs/initiatives. Direct clinical responsibilities include conducting assessments of children who have experienced trauma/maltreatment and providing evidence-based therapy to children and families impacted by child sexual abuse, physical abuse, and other traumas. Services may be provided in person and/or by telehealth.

Full-time position with excellent benefits. Doctorate in Psychology, or Master’s Degree in Social Work and Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW)/Master’s Degree in Counseling and Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) with commensurate experience required. NJ license-eligible required. Experience with evidence-based trauma-focused cognitive behavioral therapy (TF-CBT) required. Summary:

Functions with considerable autonomy in providing evidence-based trauma-focused treatment services to clients and their families. Provides supervision and/or consultation to licensed and unlicensed mental health professionals.

Duties

  1. Shows leadership and initiative in support of overall Institute mission.
  2. Actively participates in policy and goal-setting for the Institute, as observed by supervisory staff.
  3. Provides constructive feedback to Institute administration, as observed by supervisory staff.
  4. Collects, maintains, and provides management information and data as required, as observed by supervisory staff.
  5. Initiates and participates in staff training and development consistent with areas of expertise, as observed by supervisory staff.
  6. Demonstrates leadership and administrative skill in managing Institute-related programs and initiatives, as observed by supervisory staff.


  • Provides direct clinical and administrative supervision as assigned to licensed and unlicensed mental health professionals.
  • Provides support and guidance to supervisees consistent with their needs, as indicated by written evaluations and supervisory consultations.
  • Evaluates supervisees’ performance to determine areas that need improvement, as indicated by written evaluations and supervisory consultations.
  • Signs off on paperwork for any unlicensed clinicians assigned and takes responsibility for ensuring that supervisees remain up-to-date in terms of record keeping, chart notes, and reports.
  • Provides ongoing clinical training and case supervision to supervisees in evidence-based treatment models developed at the Institute to treat traumatized children.
  • Assists with case management responsibilities for supervisees’ assigned clients, including coordination of treatment and liaison with community agencies, as indicated by supervisory observation and review of records.


  • Provides evidence-based trauma-focused therapy as clinically indicated to assigned clients.
  • Provides appropriate therapy with empathy and concern for the client, as assessed by supervisory staff.
  • Administers standardized measures as per assessment protocols, as indicated by review of records.
  • Involves client and/or family in developing achievable and understandable psychosocial treatment goals/plans in accordance with accepted professional standards, as assessed by supervisory staff.
  • Spends appropriate percentage of time in direct service, as determined by Institute administration.
  • Advocates for appropriate resources for clients and families based on assessed needs in accordance with professionally accepted standards, as measured by supervisory interactions and review of records.
  • Responds to clients’ needs with clinical flexibility, as assessed by supervisory staff.
  • Responds with sensitivity to cultural and social-economic issues of clients, as assessed by supervisory staff.
  • Manages termination issues in an effective and timely manner, as assessed by supervisory staff.
  • Manages caseload demands effectively while considering both quality of care and agency needs, as assessed by supervisory staff.
  • May provide services at a local CP&P office.


  • Assumes overall case management responsibilities for assigned clients including coordination of treatment and liaison with community agencies, as measured by supervisory observation and record review.
  • Collaborates effectively with other staff members, referral sources, and social support networks to provide treatment and care for clients and families, as measured by supervisory observation and record review.
  • Maintains effective, open communication with members of treatment team, as indicated by feedback from team members and supervisory observation.
  • Provides psychological assessments, which may include comprehensive psychological evaluations and mental health screenings of children in foster care.
  • Conducts assessments following appropriate protocol, as assessed by supervisory staff and review of records.
  • Communicates findings/recommendations in a clear and effective manner, as assessed by supervisory staff and review of records.
  • Completes reports within the contracted timeframe, as indicated by review of records.


  • Maintains appropriate client records in a timely manner as mandated by Institute policy.
  • Completes report of initial assessment and treatment plan within contracted timeframe after last assessment appointment, as indicated by review of records.
  • Maintains up-to-date chart notes, as indicated by review of records.
  • Completes final paperwork and turns in chart for closure within expected timeframe after termination of services, as indicated by review of records.


  • Maintains knowledge of trends and developments in the field.
  • Regularly attends and participates in in-service meetings and other designated training events that will enhance clinical skills, as documented by attendance at same.
  • Identifies and develops area of expertise related to child abuse.


  • Supports goals and objectives of the CARES Institute.
  • Effectively contributes to and supports an environment that enhances the positive self-image of clients and preserves their human dignity, as observed by supervisory staff.
  • Actively and enthusiastically participates in and contributes to the smooth functioning of operations, as observed by supervisory staff.
  • Actively participates in Institute-wide meetings, committees, and task forces as assigned, as observed by supervisory staff and Institute administration.
  • Other related activities
  • Provides therapy through grant-funded programs as requested.
  • Adheres to grant-funded treatment protocols and completes all required records and reports.
  • Maintains client contact expectations.
  • Maintains knowledge of trends and developments in the field through regular attendance at/participation in in-service meetings and training events.


  • Performs other related duties as required.

    Two evenings of direct service are required. Travel may be required to the CP&P office in any of the following counties: Atlantic, Burlington, Camden, Cape May, Cumberland, Gloucester, or Salem. Travel between the CARES Stratford and Vineland offices may be required.
