Primary Function

Responsible for: Collaborate directly with Center and department leadership, staff and faculty in the design, development, and management of online programs, courses and learning experiences, online course partnerships, hybrid and flexible course design, and non-credit design and development projects. Design, develop, and deliver programs, quick guides, informational materials and tutorials on effective online teaching and learning, integration of digital learning tools and techniques, and application of quality standards for faculty, teaching staff and teaching assistants. Assist in planning, coordination, and implementation of online teaching professional development activities and large-scale digital course materials accessibility programs and initiatives.
Duties and Responsibilities (generally)
  1. Collaborate directly with faculty and staff in the design, development, and management of online courses and learning experiences, online course partnerships, hybrid and flexible course design, and non-credit design and development projects. (30%)
  2. Assist in the comprehensive planning of online programs in colleges and departments, including online teaching professional development needs, and designing and developing professional development programs to meet those needs. (10%)
  3. Investigate, evaluate, and support digital tools and platforms to support online courses, programs, and learning experiences. (5%)
  4. Assist faculty and academic units with developing digital learning programs’ quality related policies and procedures, and implementation strategies. (5%)
  5. Provide individual and group consultation for faculty and staff to improve online and hybrid teaching effectiveness and student learning experiences by applying learning theories, teaching strategies, instructional design models, best practices in online education, and integrating educational technologies. (15%)
  6. Design, develop, and deliver comprehensive professional development programs, workshops, quick guides, informational materials and tutorials on effective online teaching and learning, integration of digital learning tools and techniques, and application of quality standards for faculty, teaching staff and teaching assistants. (15%)
  7. Assist in planning, coordination, and implementation of large-scale digital course materials accessibility programs and initiatives. (10%)
  8. Represent the Center in meetings with academic and support units at NIU and other institutions on issues related to online teaching and learning, online program and course planning and design, digital learning systems, course materials accessibility and quality. (5%)
  9. Work closely with Center staff and leadership on various activities related to the mission of the Center as assigned by the Office of the Provost. (5%)

Minimum Required Qualifications for this position

1. Master’s degree
2. At least one (1) year (12 months) experience designing and delivering programs and/or workshops in online teaching and learning strategies and technologies in a higher education setting for participants teaching online, preparing to teach online, or considering teaching online, including participation in curriculum planning, managing program/workshop design and development, delivery in in-person and remote formats, and participation in program/workshop evaluation.
3. At least (1) year (12 months) of experience teaching online, blended, or hybrid courses at the undergraduate or graduate levels in a higher education setting.

Specialty Factors (Additional Required Qualifications)

Education and Experience Preferred

1. Doctoral degree and/or doctoral coursework in education or related fields is preferred.
2. Experience addressing accessibility issues, including using common accessibility platforms or tools and/or modifying various filetypes and web content for greater accessibility is preferred.
3. Certification in Quality Matters or other similar online course quality standards is preferred.
4. Experience using and supporting others’ use of Blackboard to create content, courses, and/or learning experiences is preferred.
5. Experience designing online, hybrid, or blended learning courses, programs, or learning experiences using a learning management system in a higher education setting is preferred.

Mon - Fri, 8 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.
Minimum Pay Rate (Hourly or Monthly)
$4,166.67/month ($50,000 - $60,000 annualized)

Actual hiring rate is commensurate with experience, education, and internal equity; position includes a robust benefits package to eligible applicants.
