Key Position Information:


Position Summary:
Responsible for accounting and business management functions of the SPC Foundation, including all aspects of reporting, tracking, banking and investment of funds for this direct support organization of the College.

Typical Essential Duties
  • Manages cash flow requirements and reporting;
  • Manages tax and compliance requirements;
  • Serves as staff liaison to the Foundation Board and to its Finance and Investment Committee;
  • Tracks and reports progress toward annual goals;
  • Implements and maintains a system of internal controls and security over all financial transactions and assets. Follows standard accounting practices and procedures;
  • Works with external auditors in the annual review, providing reports, data and assistance as needed;
  • Tracks contributions to be matched by corporations, foundations and the State of Florida and assures that all requirements for spending and reporting are met;
  • Works with the Office of Scholarships and Financial Aid and Business Office staffs to bill and pay awards, financial grants and scholarships in a timely manner;
  • Maintains up-to-date records for all Foundation funds, i.e., Endowed Scholarships, Faculty Chairs, Distinguished Teaching Chairs, et al;
  • Works with donors and prospective donors regarding the criteria and financial aspects of their gifts.

This is the third of four levels in the Accounting/Finance Professional series. The classification is responsible for performing complex professional accounting transactions and reporting that requires the application of general accounting principles. Responsibilities may include developing project or department budgets; interpreting grant and contract regulations and their relation to College accounting procedures; preparing financial statements and reports for internal and external audiences; researching the source and cause of discrepancies in accounting systems; maintaining the integrity of accounting systems; developing financial projections based on previous activity; and preparing and approving journal entries and financial transactions. Incumbents may act as a lead to lower level accounting staff.


Requirements::
Education:

Bachelor's degree in Accounting, business or in a related field to assigned area; must be a Certified Public Accountant in the state of Florida.

Experience:

Five (5) years experience in the accounting or auditing field preferably within a Development/Foundation/Fundraising organization.

* An equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job may be acceptable in lieu of those requirements listed above.

Physical:
  • Positions in this class typically require: reaching, standing, walking, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing, seeing and repetitive motions.
  • Sedentary Work: Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects. Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time. Jobs are sedentary if walking and standing are required only occasionally and all other sedentary criteria are met.

License:

Certified Public Accountant in the state of Florida.


Responsibilities:

Potential Frequency
1.
Prepares budgets for assigned departments; reviews and modifies budgets as necessary; tracks revenues and expenditures; prepares and provides financial information as requested.

Reviews and participates in complex financial accounting activities, which may include: reviewing, researching, and analyzing financial data and transactions; tracking and analyzing expenditures; reconciling accounts; tracking leases; projecting revenues and expenses; reviewing and approving financial invoices and contracts; researching account discrepancies; assessing, maintaining, and interpreting financial and accounting systems; and/or performing related activities.
Daily - 30%

3.
Prepares a variety of detailed analytical and statistical financial reports which may include: analyzing accounts for accuracy and discrepancies; performing costs analyses; recommending departmental spending priorities.
Daily - 20%

4.
Prepares, submits, reviews, and analyzes a variety of statements, contracts, and reconciliations to and from internal departments, financial institutions, and external agencies; makes recommendations based on findings.
Daily - 30%

5.
Performs other duties of a similar nature or level.
