Position Summary Information

Position Summary
The Director of Design and Construction is responsible for the planning and management of all changes to the campus physical plant, including design, construction, renovation and major maintenance projects in adherence to the campus master plan. The Director is also responsible for managing the facilities archives, developing the annual capital budget submission, selecting project designers and consultants, overseeing the annual space inventory update, preparing the annual construction authority submission, reviewing and approving payment applications, construction submittals, and as-builts. The Director plans, coordinates and manages the work of the Office of Facilities Design and Construction in delivering quality service to the University community.

Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s of Science degree in engineering or construction management or a related field with at least five years of progressive management experience in design/project management of the construction and renovation of complex, large buildings and building systems. Experience/training in space management and utilization, managing design professionals/construction contractors, construction scheduling, and design development. Knowledge of OSHA and local and state building codes. Experience working with diverse populations. Successful performance in an interview. Preferred Qualifications
Masters’ degree in Mechanical Engineering, with emphasis on mechanical and HVAC building systems, or Masters’ in Business Administration, Construction Management or in a closely related field. Professionally licensed in PA or the ability to obtain it within 6 months. Strong leadership and negotiating skills, experience using Microsoft Projects or other project management software, direct experience with the PA Uniform Construction Code, PA Department of Labor & Industry’s Plans Examiners Office and PA Department of General Services ( DGS ) design/construction processes. Experience with U.S. Green Building Council process including LEED building certification towards the University’s sustainability initiatives. Familiarity with working in a higher education/unionized environment.
