Tenure-Track Assistant Professor in Psychology

The School of Social Sciences at NTU invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professorship in Psychology.

Psychology is one of four major programmes in SSS, alongside Economics, Sociology and Public Policy and Global Affairs. The Programme attracts excellent students to its BSocSci, MA, and PhD degree programmes, and provides General Elective Courses for the entire University community. The Psychology programme is young, dynamic and research-active. We have a growing international reputation, and are currently ranked 27th in the world (QS Psychology Subject Rankings 2021). The successful applicant will be expected to join us in mid 2022 or as soon as possible thereafter.

The successful candidate will hold a doctorate-level qualification in an appropriate Psychological field, be able to demonstrate effective teaching and training of undergraduate students, and have a strong track record of research commensurate with career stage (e.g., publications in peer-reviewed journals and conference presentations). Candidates with a strong publication record and specializations in one or more of these fields are particularly welcome: I/O Psychology, Personality Psychology, Health Psychology, Forensic Psychology, and Clinical Psychology. For Clinical Psychology, evidence of research and scholarly potential, and excellence in teaching and/or clinical supervision is highly desirable. 

The successful candidate will be expected to contribute significantly to teaching and development of multiple courses at the undergraduate and postgraduate level, including introductory level survey-type courses, laboratory and methods courses, and seminar courses.The candidate will also participate in the administration of the Programme, and develop an independent research career.

Essential selection criteria:

  • The attainment of a PhD/DPhil in Psychology or a related discipline
  • A strong research track record, including publications ininternational peer reviewed journals
  • Experience and interest in teaching undergraduate psychology students, with a strong and demonstrable commitment to the organization and delivery of teaching, particularly in one or more areas of I/O Psychology, Personality Psychology, Health Psychology, Forensic Psychology, and Clinical Psychology
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills relevant to teaching and pastoral care
  • Willingness and ability to contribute to the overall objectives of the Programme and School, and in working collaboratively with others
Desirable selection criteria:

  • Experience of academic administration
  • Experience with securing grant funding
Selection will be based on evidence of potential for high-quality research and effective teaching.  Relevant post-doctoral experience will be of significant advantage.
