Assistant Professor of Creative Writing, Tenure Track, Starting September 1, 2022

This is an in-person on campus, non-remote position.

The Literature Program at Stockton University invites applicants for a tenure-track position as Assistant Professor of Creative Writing. The program welcomes writers of any genre to apply; preference will be given to applicants with experience teaching prose writing (including long-form literary fiction, popular genre fiction, creative nonfiction, and memoir) as well as introductory multi-genre workshops. The successful candidate will join a thriving department of writers and literary scholars whose innovative pedagogies center marginalized voices and bodies. We seek a colleague with the interest and ability to blend writing and teaching with progressive activism, and to help engage communities beyond the university’s walls. This new faculty member will help shape the direction of our BFA in Creative Writing, which launches in September 2022. Additional teaching opportunities include designing interdisciplinary courses for our General Studies curriculum, and designing courses that fulfill Stockton’s new degree requirement in Race and Racism Education.

• Teach 3 courses per semester, including a mix of introductory multi-genre workshops, upper-level genre workshops, and an interdisciplinary course in General Studies
• Serve as an advisor to majors and minors
• Cultivate a publication record in the primary genre of expertise (publications outside the primary genre are also welcomed and encouraged)
• Provide service to the university, community, and profession

Required Qualifications:

• MFA or PhD in Creative Writing, in hand by August 31, 2022

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience teaching creative writing courses
• Record of publications in creative writing
• Experience working with diverse populations
• Experience connecting teaching or writing to public-facing activism or community engagement
