About the Position:

The Marketing Communications Manager, reporting through UMC's Senior Director of School-Based Marketing Communications with a direct responsibility to the Dean of the School of Nursing, will strategically develop and execute marketing and communication plans designed to elevate the brand and reach prospective students, faculty, staff, alumni, and donors.


The Marketing Communications Manager will work closely with the Dean of the School of Nursing, UMC leaders, and other stakeholders to develop and execute strategic marketing and communications plans designed to reach prospective students, faculty, staff, alumni, donors, and external audiences. In coordination with colleagues in Enrollment (undergraduate and graduate and professional enrollment management and marketing) and Advancement (alumni and donor relations), the Marketing Communications Manager is responsible for the public presence of the school and the channels it uses to communicate with and engage target audiences.


It is the responsibility of the Marketing Communications Manager to deeply understand how the brand awareness and reputational needs of the School of Nursing and the vision of the dean can be served through integrated marketing-communications and content/brand storytelling in alignment with the University's brand and strategic direction. Priorities and work effort will be determined in coordination with the dean.



Marketing Communications Manager Responsibilities:

Strategically develop and execute integrated marketing communications plans and measurable goals designed to:

  • Raise the reputation and awareness of the School of Nursing and its programs
  • Help engage prospective students, faculty, staff, alumni, donors, and external audiences
  • Align School of Nursing marketing and communication with institutional brand
  • Steward the brand of the School of Nursing
  • Meet regularly with the Dean, attend school-wide and relevant staff meetings, and participate in the life of the School of Nursing
  • Strategize, develop, and implement dean communications, including strategic internal communication to faculty, staff, and students and other strategic executive communication
  • Identify, create, and distribute compelling content across all communication channels to inform, inspire, and engage relevant audiences and move them to supportive actions
  • Help oversee the School of Nursing annual magazine with a focus on branding and reputation
  • Consult on faculty recruitment marketing
  • Provide strategic oversight and management for the School of Nursing digital channels including social media and website
  • As needed, support media relations, crisis communications, and project management for the School of Nursing in collaboration with UMC staff
  • Collaborate with Enrollment (undergraduate and graduate and professional enrollment management and marketing) and Advancement (alumni and donor relations) efforts by consulting on projects, helping source relevant content, and ensuring brand and school integrity across all messaging.
  • Work collaboratively with leadership and colleagues including designers, photographers, videographers, and others, and respect discipline expertise
  • Supervise the hiring and management of student workers and/or freelance assistance needed to support communication and marketing plans
  • Establish budgets in coordination with the School of Nursing and UMC leadership
  • Support School of Nursing and University commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and antiracism.

    Computer Skills

    • Experience in web content management systems and relevant design software is


    Preferred Qualifications

    • Bachelor's degree (or higher) in communications, marketing, or related field and a minimum of three years of full-time experience in marketing
    • Exceptional written communication skills and a talent for digital storytelling that leads to engagement on multiple digital
    • Demonstrated digital marketing experience, including social media, email, and content marketing with an understanding of associated success metrics and
    • Demonstrated experience creating and implementing an integrated marketing communications plan against measurable
    • An understanding of media
    • Basic design
    • Demonstrated project and organizational management skills and a history of successfully delivering
    • Familiarity with higher education and/or agency models are a bonus.
