Position Summary:

This is a position for a critical care anesthesiologist primarily to provide critical care attending coverage in the ICUs and clinical anesthesia care to patients in the operating rooms. If appointed on the CHS track, duties will include education and research components.

Principal Duties:

Duties for appointment to the Clinician Teacher (CT) track: Primary responsibilities will be clinical. Provide critical care coverage to the UWHC Surgical ICU, Medical ICU, Cardio-Thoracic ICU, and/or Neuro-Intensive Care Unit, including ICU call coverage, dependent upon training and need. In addition, work as an anesthesiologist providing anesthetic care to surgical patients either personally performing anesthesia or in an anesthesia team model. Balance of ICU or duties to be determined on an individual basis. Clinical teaching will be in the area of critical care medicine.

Duties for appointment to CHS track: Major teaching responsibilities for residents and fellows in the ICUs and operating rooms, and didactic sessions. Primary emphasis of teaching will be related to critical care medicine. Provide critical care coverage to the UWHC Surgical ICU, Medical ICU, Cardio-Thoracic ICU, and/or Neuro-Intensive Care Unit, including ICU call coverage, dependent upon training and need. In addition, work as an anesthesiologist providing anesthetic care to surgical patients either personally performing anesthesia or in an anesthesia team model. Balance of ICU or duties to be determined on an individual basis. Opportunity for participation or to lead clinical research for interested candidates.

The successful applicant will participate in administrative and committee work to support the clinical and scholarly missions of UW Health and the School of Medicine and Public Health. An essential part of these duties will be working in a collegial relationship with other faculty members.

Degree and Area of Specialization:

MD or DO, Anesthesiology

Minimum Years and Type of Relevant Work Experience:

Completion of anesthesiology residency program, and certified or eligible for certification by the American Board of
Anesthesiology. Subspecialty fellowship training in critical care, and certified or eligible for certification by an appropriate specialty board for critical care medicine.

License or Certificate:

Wisconsin medical license or eligible, board certified or eligible for board certification in anesthesiology, fellowship trained in critical care.

Additional Information:

This position will be a dual appointment with UW Madison and UW Medical Foundation.

Candidates for Associate Professor (CHS) or Professor (CHS) must meet criteria for appointment at rank per UW School of Medicine and Public Health guidelines for appointment and promotion on the CHS track.

Candidates for Clinical Associate Professor or Clinical Professor must meet criteria for appointment at rank per UW School of Medicine and Public Health guidelines for appointment and promotion on the Clinician Teacher track.
