Position Title Research & Education Librarian Overview
Provide support for the Research & Education (R&E) department and library-wide public service activities. Essential Duties:
1. Participate in physical and virtual research education services, including research support desk, in-person and by appointment consultations, LibGuides, LibAnswers, online chat, email, text, and phone. Deliver excellent library research education services and prioritize needs in an active, dynamic environment. Work with students, faculty, staff, and other library users in the effective use of available information sources in all formats. Assist patrons in the use of library resources, services, and facilities.
2. Participate in research education (library instruction/information literacy) and training programs as an integral component of the library’s TLR enterprise. Teach course-related instruction sessions and stand-alone workshops. Co-create online instructional materials like LibGuides, online tutorials, or other asynchronous methods. Cultivate and sustain collaborative relationships with students, staff, and faculty in support of campus teaching and learning. Instruction outreach to the School of Continuing Education ( SCE ).
3. Participate in developing and evaluating print and electronic collections, including periodic deselection of outdated titles and formats. Partner with R&E, Collections Services, and Library Administration on targeted marketing of library resources and services to schools and departments. Co-develop marketing materials and strategies to promote library resources and services through print, web, and social media. Ensure all digital and print media are current and relevant to changing resources, curriculum, and campus needs.
4. Partner with Access Services staff in a full range of public service support activities, assist and support when and where needed (computer hardware and software assistance, digitization services, book checkout/check-in, etc.) Assist faculty, students, staff, and public community members at computer stations in proximity to the service desk. Perform basic computer and software troubleshooting. Provide patron assistance and pack up when needed.
5. Engage in professional activity/ongoing research and development. Participate in professional societies, networks, and conferences to monitor and shape changes in research education protocols, standards, and community practices. Serve on relevant library, College, and professional committees; and maintain membership in relevant professional associations and societies. Participate in local and regional training opportunities. Maintain awareness of innovations and trends within the library field. Serve on relevant HELIN committees. Marginal Duties:
Perform all other duties as may be required. Education and Experience Required
  • MLS of Library Science from an ALA -accredited library school or equivalent post-graduate degree and professional experience required.
  • Professional experience in a college or university setting
  • Professional experience in face-to-face and virtual teaching, learning, and research spaces
  • Experience in the creation of media and web-based materials
  • Marketing and outreach experience
  • Administrative and project management abilities and experience
  • Demonstrated ability to work with students, faculty, and staff; preferably in a liberal arts environment
  • Knowledge of information literacy theory and practice
  • Knowledge of, and ability with, research instruction, online/asynchronous, face-to-face/synchronous, and hybrid
  • Instructional design knowledge: creation, enhancement, and maintain eTLR platforms, modules, applications, and CMS / LMS
  • Ability to integrate traditional and high-technology services, resources, and tools for teaching, learning, and research; knowledge of multiple operating systems (Windows, OS, and open source), and platforms (desktop, mobile, and cloud.)
  • Ability to teach and support others using pertinent digital media, publishing, audio, and video tools
  • Ability to work as a member of a team and to manage multiple and time-critical projects and tasks
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate and effectively communicate with students, faculty, staff, and the public
  • Demonstrated knowledge of, and ability with, database and Internet search and peripherals, including bibliographic tools and utilities (es. RefWorks, EndNote, Zotero, Etc.)
