Lifespan Development and Educational Sciences

Setting:  Kent State University (http://www.kent.edu/ ) is located in Northeast Ohio, a geographic area rich in institutional diversity. The Director of the School of Lifespan Development and Educational Sciences (LDES) is the chief administrative officer of the School and reports directly to and is accountable to the Dean of the College of Education, Health, and Human Services. The School of LDES (https://www.kent.edu/ehhs/ldes) offers undergraduate, master’s and doctoral degrees and houses the programs of American Sign Language/ English Interpreting, Career & Community Studies, Counselor Education and Supervision, Educational Psychology, Human Development & Family Studies, Long-Term Care Administration, School Psychology, and Special Education. There are approximately 53 faculty serving 626 undergraduate and 519 graduate students.

The Director of the School of Lifespan Development and Educational Sciences (LDES) is responsible for the following:

  • Maintains shared problem-solving and ongoing intellectual dialogue about teaching, scholarship, programming, and issues related to the evolving educational environment.
  • Recommends the reappointment, non-reappointment, tenure, promotion, sanction, and or dismissal of faculty members in the School, as well as appoints and directs the nonacademic staff of the School.
  • Assigns workload to faculty members and facilitates scheduling of courses.
  • Engages in fiscally responsible management of unit resources.
  • Advocates for and represents faculty and programs within the School, College, and University affairs, forums and decisions.
  • Contributes to the scholarly culture and climate of the School.
  • Promotes clear, respectful communication and positive morale within the School.
  • Leads the unit in promoting and facilitating diversity, equity, and inclusion among students, faculty and staff.
  • Develops administrative and educational policies in collaboration with faculty and programs in the School.
  • Ensures implementation of School compliance with University, administrative and operational policies, rules and regulations and any applicable collective bargaining agreements.
  • Performs other tasks and duties as assigned and may include but are not limited to following the progress of graduates, building and maintaining relationships across Kent State University’s multiple campuses, and providing orientation to new faculty.

Qualifications:    

  • Terminal degree in one of the disciplines of the school and experience generally commensurate to the rank of full professor or significant academic or equivalent professional experience generally commensurate to the rank of full professor.
  • Administrative experience serving complex and diverse constituencies, including a proven ability to provide visionary leadership and promote excellence in teaching, research, creative activity and service.
  • A demonstrated and ongoing commitment to serving diverse populations, including success in developing and managing diverse teams and championing diversity, equity and inclusion.

Salary:  Competitive and commensurate with qualifications.
