Job Description

PURPOSE AND SCOPE:

The System Administrator III, Virtualization maintains the integrity of the OS environment. Responsible for installing, configuring and maintaining operating system workstations and servers, including web mail and application servers, in support of complex processing requirements. Provides extensive operational support, file restorations, backups, disk space management and problem resolution for OS platforms. Researches, evaluates and recommends software and hardware products. Supports Web access and electronic messaging services and maintains a secure systems environment for the enterprise. Maintains the integrity of the Operating system environment delete this it is in the first sentence. This position is a member of a 24/7/365 global department.



ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  1. Designs and deploys the server and desktop virtualization layers
  2. Develops and implements business continuity practices for virtualization management, including RTO/RPOs and defining recovery plans
  3. Researches, recommends, installs, and configures, tests and implements infrastructure software and hardware
  4. Monitors use and availability of resources
  5. Maintains and modifies backup and recovery procedures to meet high availability and mission critical business needs
  6. Troubleshoots virtualization related issues and takes appropriate actions.
  7. Generates reports and analysis on resource usage
  8. Maintains storage configurations to provide capacity planning and performance monitoring/tuning of systems
  9. Benchmarks, evaluates and makes recommendations for the selection of storage management software and hardware products
  10. Analyzes system requirements and performance of hardware/software systems, and develops specific measures to increase the overall efficiency of these systems
  11. Ensures workstation/server data integrity by evaluating, implementing and managing appropriate software and hardware solutions
  12. Ensures data/media recoverability by implementing a schedule of backups and database archive operations
  13. Maintains tasks, projects and activities in the IT system of Record (S-NOW).
  14. Responsible for other reasonable, related duties assigned

  • Demonstrated decision making guided by general instructions and practices requiring interpretation
  • Ability to assist in formulating recommendations on difficult problems
  • Ability to serve as a mentor/ developmental advisor and/or training resource to less experienced staff
  • Ability to seek opportunities and sets some goals for own development
  • Ability to follow IT procedures to complete work, but may recommend changes to departmental processes
  • Ability to often prioritizes own work; work is reviewed at key stages by manager/administrative officer or team, anticipates consequences of actions, potential problems, or opportunities for change
  • Ability to know and follow standard operating procedures
PHYSICAL ABILITIES:

The work is sedentary. Typically, the employee sits comfortably to do the work. However, there may be some walking; standing; bending; carrying of light items, such as papers, books, or small parts; or driving an automobile. No special physical demands are required to perform the work.

WORK SCHEDULE AND CONDITIONS:
  • Equipment used includes, PC workstation running on a LAN in a Microsoft Windows environment, calculator, phone and other general office equipment
  • Interface with internal and external contacts as needed to carry out the functions of the position
  • Work is performed in a climate-controlled office with minimal exposure to safety hazards
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Bachelor’s degree and at least 4 years of related work experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Intermediate certification in area of responsibility
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Advance Certifications in areas of responsibility
  • Experience in VMWare vSphere and View, Hyper Converge Systems, EMC Storage and Backup Systems, Cisco UCS, HPE Compute, Brocade FC Networking, CIFS and NFS File System a plus
Salary

Hiring salary range is $74,911 - $86,148

Lone Star College provides a hiring salary range for all posted full-time non-faculty positions. Where your salary offer would fall in that range is determined by your related experience and education. Should you receive an offer of employment from Lone Star College, the resume submitted in the application process will be utilized to calculate your salary offer.
