General Statement of Job

The Licensed Practical Nurse is responsible for providing nursing care to the patient, under the direction of a physician or health care provider.

Specific Duties and Responsibilities

Essential Duties include but are not limited to:

Collect selected data regarding the health status of the patient.

Participate in the development of the plan of care with other team members and safely implement that plan.

Communicate in an attentive and individualized manner in every encounter.

Verify the patients understanding of the purpose of visit.

Provide instruction/teaching to the patient according to the educational plan.

Document care provided or procedures performed accurately on patient records.

Provide each patient with care in a safe, comfortable and private environment.

Answer the phone and schedule patient appointments.

Assist walk in patients with first aid and schedule appointments if needed.

Prepare charts for clinic and physician review.

Photocopy clinic records and forms.

Assist with filing.

Data entry of immunization records into computer system.

Additional Responsibilities:

Demonstrate responsibility and accountability for professional practice, continued growth and self-evaluation.

Document work processes as required.

Maintain professional appearance and professional conduct at all times.

Adhere to all policies and procedures including office, university, medical staff, and state protocols.

Effectively cope with typical job stress.

Perform other duties as assigned.

Education, Experience, and Licenses

Current State of Missouri LPN licensure.

CPR certification for Health Care Providers.

Annual flu vaccine and proof of TB testing in last year.

Proof of 2 MMR vaccines, varicella titer or immunization,

Proof of 3 Hepatitis B vaccinations with titer showing immunity post vaccination.

Experience – 6 to 12 months of professional nursing experience in a clinical setting preferred.

  • Ability to interpret, adapt and apply guidelines and procedures.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in the English language in person, by phone and in writing.
  • Requires adherence to all policies and procedures, including but not limited to standards for safety, attendance, punctuality and personal appearance
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with physicians, nurse practitioners, nurses, management and peers
  • Maintain current CPR for Health Care Providers
  • Maintain current State of Missouri LPN licensure
  • Requires the ability to retrieve, analyze, synthesize and report data in a clearly effective manner.
  • Requires the ability to use small office equipment, including copy machines or multi-line telephone systems.
  • Requires the ability to use computers for data entry, word processing and spreadsheets.

Physical Demands/Work Environment

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Hearing: Adequate to perform job duties in person and over the telephone. Able to use stethoscope and respond to verbal questions.

Speaking: Must be able to communicate clearly to patients in person and over the telephone.

Vision: Visual acuity adequate to perform job duties, including visual examination of patient and reading information from printed sources and computer screens.

Other: Requires frequent lifting and carrying items weighing up to 50 pounds unassisted, including assisting patients when required. Adequate physical ability including sufficient manual dexterity to perform the requisite health care service, including injections. Requires frequent bending, reaching, repetitive hand movements, standing, walking, squatting and sitting, with some heavy lifting, pushing and pulling exerted regularly throughout a regular work shift. Requires exposure to communicable diseases and/or bodily fluids.

The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
