Job Summary/Basic Function:

The Interim Director of Counseling will step in as the primary point person for all clinical, ethical, legal and administrative duties required.

Primary administrative responsibilities of this individual include, but are not limited to attendance at weekly meetings such as CARE, and bi-weekly meetings such as Student Affairs Leadership Team ( SALT ), monthly meetings such as housing accommodations and medical leave meetings. This individual will plan and execute the end of year staff retreat, and intern thank you lunch. They will also take the lead on preparing and submitting the Counseling portion of the annual report. Additionally, this individual will be responsible for Titanium updating and management, and annual surveying of students who have utilized the Counseling Center services, and renewal of Titanium and AUCCCD memberships.

Primary clinical responsibilities of this individual include but are not limited to daily oversight of all clinical aspects of the Counseling Center. Supervision of all unlicensed staff, signing of unlicensed staff notes, being the primary Clinician on Duty ( COD ) 3 days per week with backup of all other staff when they are COD . Triaging and determining risk, liability and legal and ethical requirements in all clinical work of staff as well as requests from the College community, parents and students. Importantly and least able to be anticipated, this individual will field all emails, phone calls and in person consultation, request for collaboration, concerns about students and other daily tasks that arise and are urgent or emergent in nature and occur daily from faculty, staff, students, parents/guardians and others. This individual will hold a small caseload of clients.
This interim Director will also approve the Credit Card transactions monthly for the Associate Director of College Health Administration and the Office Manager / Temp at the Front Desk of the Counseling Center, and approve all Timesheets and Time Off Requests for all Counseling staff.

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Education required for independent licensure (see below)
  • Minimum of 5-8 years of experience, including both clinical and administrative responsibilities, in a college counseling center.
  • In-depth understanding of health-related issues that are common to this setting and population (e.g., stress, substance use, outbreaks of common illnesses).
  • Experience with, and vision for, the interrelatedness of counseling and health services.
  • Demonstrated understanding of, and appreciation for, the nature of a small residential college.
  • Experience as a clinical and administrative supervisor.
  • Demonstrated ability to create and maintain systems and processes in the context of a counseling or health center.
  • Understanding of the ethical and legal issues involved in the provision of clinical services, and assuring that personnel in the department abide by the ethical and legal tenets of the profession.
Licenses:
Independent licensure as an LMHC, LICSW, PHD, PsyD or Psychiatric NP is required.
