The State University of New York College of Agriculture and Technology at Cobleskill is an accredited polytechnic college that is primarily baccalaureate and residential. Job Description:

SUNY Cobleskill is seeking to fill two full-time remote positions within its Information Technology Services (ITS) Department. The positions vary depending on qualifications, and salary will be commensurate with experience. The positions offer full New York State benefits which are among the most comprehensive in the country.

Within our ITS Department, the Information Services (IS) team supports the College's ERP system Ellucian's Banner, and numerous other related 3rd party software solutions.

The successful candidate(s) will work both independently and collaboratively with the IS team and functional area personnel to design, program, test, implement, maintain, and document a wide range of solutions.

Requirements:

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree
  • Minimum of three years of programming/analysis experience
  • Experience with Ellucian Banner INB and SSB
  • Experience working in a higher education environment (2+ years preferred)
  • Strong knowledge of SQL programming (PL/SQL preferred)
  • Linux experience (bash scripting, cron, ssh, etc.)
  • Experience with PUTTY or similar tool
  • Independent problem-solving skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong customer service orientation
  • Willingness to learn and keep pace with modern technology

Preferred Qualifications

In addition to the aforementioned minimum qualifications, it is preferred the candidate also have: 

  • Functional knowledge in one or more of the following Ellucian Banner INB areas; Admissions, Registration, Accounts Receivable, Financial Aid, Finance.
  • Perform problem analysis (identify root causes, outline resolution options, and take appropriate actions to resolve problems)
  • PL/SQL Developer, or equivalent developer's tool
  • Evision's Argos Reporting Tool
  • Develop and maintain web-based technologies
  • Banner Web Tailor
  • MS Visual Studio, or a comparable IDE
  • Ellucian Degree Works
  • Banner Document Management System (BDMS)
  • Ellucian's Work Flow Tool
  • Experience with web technologies / web application programming
  • Object-Oriented Programming language (C#, Java, Python, etc.)
  • Acquaintance with Active Directory

More Experienced Qualifications

For more experienced candidates in addition to the above, qualifications may also include: 

  • Ability to mentor departmental programmers and peers
  • Experience working on multiple projects and teams simultaneously. The ability to take a project from an initial design all the way through to installation. Practical implementation knowledge and experience will be given preference over theoretical knowledge
  • Work with departmental staff to identify, develop and deploy various applications and systems needed to meet SUNY Cobleskill's ongoing goals
  • Serve as a technical contact for Clients, third-party vendors, and technology partners
  • Assess proposed technology projects and provide guidance while planning solutions
  • Communicate with the functional areas and other end-users during projects and document business requirements
  • Communicate with the Help Desk Center on project status's and record/assign issues, incidents and requests appropriately
  • Experience evaluating products.  The ideal candidate understands how to break down a problem, evaluate a market, vet solutions and help the institution make informed decisions
  • Experience with enterprise level concepts such as authentication, identity management, and directory services (Ellucian's Ethos Identity Services)

Additional Information:

  • The work schedule for these remote positions is full-time, and typically Monday through Friday.
  • The successful candidates will have the option of working full or part-time on campus if desired, but an on-site presence will NOT be required.
  • Salary is commensurate with experience.
