Talent Coordination Program Manager



Position Announcement

The Talent Coordination Program (TCP) will expand work-based learning and career placement within the region. This new position, funded by the Talent Ready Utah Connections Grant, will create and work with a consortium of Southern Utah businesses in their talent acquisition needs. Establishes a pipeline that connects local talent needs with available skill-based talent within the university in both the current student and alumni network. Manages internship and co-op programs with these businesses. Where skillsets are not found in the university curriculum, this position will create a feedback mechanism to quickly and efficiently incorporate changes within the existing curriculum. This is a seminal position in what will be a flagship program for talent development in the state of Utah.

This program has four primary responsibilities:
  1. Employer Outreach Promotion of Talent (50%)
  2. Advise and Increase Work-based Internships (15%)
  3. Feedback on Industry Needs (10%)
  4. Career Preparation Instruction and Programing (25%)

This is a term position, with grant funding available through June 30, 2023. Anticipation of continued funding beyond this term contingent upon program results/success.

Responsibilities

Employer Outreach Promotion of Talent (50%)
  • Create a consortium of Southern Utah businesses that will collaborate to find, recruit, and create talent in partnership with Utah Tech Faculty and Staff.
  • Coordinate with consortium members to inventory talent needs and strategize meeting that need.
  • Work with HR and other recruiting offices within the consortium as a partner for talent acquisition.
  • Participate on site with industry partners to quantify and identify skills gaps.
  • Collect, compile and provide information requested to stakeholders on the activities of the TCP.
  • Be a point-of-contact for industry partners that are need to acquire talent.
  • Work with the alumni office to develop alumni talent pools and develop communication channel to connect.
  • Work with the Career Services office to coordinate efforts across campus.
  • Manage grant metrics, reporting and communication for Go Utah.
Advise and Increase Work-based Internships (15%)
  • Act as faculty contact for students participating in for-credit internship programs.
  • Work with employers to establish standard procedures required for college credit.
  • Serve as point-of-contact for employers to address issues with student interns.
  • Find and develop rolling internship opportunities within the region.
Feedback on Industry Needs (10%)
  • Attend department meetings and collaborate with faculty to connect faculty and students to employers.
  • Participate as a member of the college curriculum committee to discuss and approve curriculum adjustments.
  • Provide feedback from industry partners relating to skills gaps in the workforce.
  • Develop programs and credentials to meet the skills gaps within the university curriculum.
  • Shares knowledge of industry with academic faculty to integrate employment-based learning with curriculum-based learning.
  • Participate on committees and task forces.
Career Preparation Instruction and Programing (25%)
  • Teach several sections of university career preparation courses.
  • Be aware of students’ skill sets, and become familiar with talent pools available within the student body.
  • Presenting to prospective students and newly admitted students.
  • Extend micro-credentialing opportunities to Washington County School District.
Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelor's Degree in a related field required (Business, Human Resources, or STEM related field).
  • Exceptional communication skills, both oral and written.
  • Strong leadership skills.
  • Ability to manage and motivate senior level people inside and outside the University.
  • Strong technical knowledge and well-rounded in technology fields such as computer sciences, advanced manufacturing, and biotechnology, or business.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Master's Degree in a related field
  • Experience working closely with or in human resources, recruitment or career services setting.
  • Experience working in higher education environment.
  • Proven track record in developing quality relationships with community, corporate, and governmental entities.
  • Proven grant writing experience preferred.
Supplemental Information

POSITION DETAILS, COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS: Full-time professional staff (overtime-exempt) position. Annual salary of $55,000+ depending on qualifications & experience. Desired start date of March 2022.
