Job Description:

Amherst College invites applications for the Assistant Director of the Amherst Fund position. Given Amherst's distinction as one of the most diverse liberal arts colleges in the country, the successful candidate will demonstrate the w ays in which they bring value to and will work towards supporting a broadly diverse community.

The Assistant Director of the Amherst Fund supports the overall Amherst Fund short-term and long-term fundraising goals by managing student-facing philanthropy initiatives, including the senior gift program. They will run the College's phonathon program, which is held twice a year, in support of the Amherst Fund's ambitious annual giving goals. This includes hiring a diverse set of student calls, managing student supervisors, and completing all associated administrative tasks. In addition to student programs, the Assistant Director develops strategies and implements fundraising activities to meet Amherst Fund goals for the most recently graduated alumni classes, including cultivating, soliciting, and stewarding volunteers and donors from a highly diverse group of alumni. They will also work with the Senior Director of the Amherst Fund on fundraising in support of the Athletics Departments, serving as a liaison to coaches and managing email newsletters and solicitations throughout the academic year.

Summary of Duties and Responsibilities

Undergraduate Philanthropy
  • Recruit, train, and support a diverse group of senior class leaders on behalf of the Senior Gift Program to foster philanthropic education and engagement
  • Plan and execute events throughout the year, implementing strategies to meet class participation goals
  • Develop a strategy to engage and educate students across campus regarding philanthropy at Amherst over the course of their four years at the College
  • Collaborate with Alumni & Parent Programs and other campus partners to execute large-scale student philanthropy and stewardship events, such as the College's Giving Day

Phonathon
  • Oversee phonathon operations, including the hiring and training of 40-50 students per semester (minimal evening shift coverage required).
  • Works with Advancement colleagues on segmentation strategy to ensure that the phonathon is calling the correct constituents with appropriate messaging. Responsible for program reporting.

Athletic Fundraising
  • Work with the Athletics staff and varsity team coaches to send emails to alumni and families with updates about athletic programs in support of the Amherst Fund's goals
  • Manage athletic fundraising efforts as part of the College's giving day

Class Management
  • Manage fundraising activities for the College's youngest and most diverse alumni classes
  • Implement Amherst Fund strategies for classes to reach dollar and participation goals, ensuring participation across demographic groups
  • Support an active volunteer structure
  • Solicit and steward leadership gifts in the youngest alumni classes

Qualifications
Required:
  • Bachelor's degree
  • 1-3 years of fundraising experience
  • Experience asking for gifts
  • Strong time management, verbal and written communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Demonstrated relationship building across a diverse set of constituents, initiative, and continuous improvement
  • Database experience, proficient in MS Access, Excel, and Word; and ability to learn new software
  • Some evenings and weekends, and travel domestically to visit with prospects and volunteers throughout the year and as necessary
  • Experience working with a diverse community
