(Job #21-68) Administrator II, Director of Development - Major Gifts. Salary is commensurate with qualifications and experience. This is a full-time, benefited, exempt, 12-month pay plan position in the Office of the Associate Vice President for Development. This position is an Administrator II in the California State University Management Personnel Plan (MPP). Under this plan, incumbents are subject to normal management reviews and serve at the pleasure of the University President. Duties: Reporting to the Associate Vice President of Development, the Director of Development develops plans and strategies for major gift development. Creates and executes an annual major gift fundraising plan for engagement with donors and prospects to increase private philanthropic support, including developing annual goals for cultivation, stewardship, and solicitation as well as annual revenue goals.

Minimum Qualifications: A bachelor's degree from an accredited institution of higher education. Three years of experience and demonstrated success in major gift development and five years of experience in fundraising or a related field. The ability to travel extensively, within California and nationally is a condition of employment.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: In-depth knowledge of a variety of gift vehicles including in-kind gifts, gifts of securities and other assets and aspects of planned giving; detailed knowledge of major gift strategies and implementation; Working knowledge of organizational effectiveness principles; working knowledge of negotiation and conflict resolution methods; excellent oral and written communication skills, tact and diplomacy appropriate for interaction with campus and external constituents; expert skill in making persuasive and compelling presentations of organizational goals/objective and in securing gifts; expert project/program management skills including skill in setting and meeting program/project goals and objectives within budget and time constraints; outstanding organization, time management, and analytical skills and the ability to independently manage multiple fundraising activities and initiatives required; superior interpersonal skills, self-motivated and well organized; ability to work independently as well as an effective team member, ability to interact with diverse constituencies and develop collaborative working relationships needed to accomplish goals; ability to develop and manage volunteer and advisory committees; ability to influence and engage a wide range of donors and build long-term relationships; ability to analyze and utilize giving metrics. Preferred Qualifications: Fundraising certifications and degrees, master's degree, development experience in a university setting, experience in a comprehensive campaign.

    New faculty employees hired by the CSU for the first time who first become CalPERS members on or after July 1, 2017 are subject to a 10-year vesting period for retiree health and dental benefits. Staff employees covered under bargaining agreements 1, 2, 4, 5, 6, 7, 9, 10, C99, E99, M80 and M9 hired by the CSU for the first time who first become CalPERS members on or after July 1, 2018 are subject to a 10-year vesting period for retiree health and dental benefits
