About the Position:

The President's Office at California State University, Fullerton is seeking an exceptional individual to join the team as the Director, Executive Communication. The ideal candidate in this role should have a positive attitude, an active, energetic mind, and a leadership style that is characterized by highly ethical practices and a commitment to diversity, openness, flexibility, integrity, and kindness.

The Executive Communications Director works collaboratively with the President's Cabinet to ensure the executive communications from and relating to the president align with the vision and the mission of the University. Works collaboratively with the Chief of Staff to ensure the president is prepared and staffed appropriately at all public events and to advise the president using information aggregated from Cabinet, the Chancellor's Office, and other relevant resources. Works as a liaison with the Chief of Staff between the president and the campus community as well as outside constituents. Works collaboratively with the Chancellor's Office and each of the vice president's communication teams to ensure all messaging is on brand with both the CSU mission and the president's vision for the University. With the approval of the president, serves as a delegate for the Chief of Staff and president in meetings and events the COS/President is unable to attend, such as the New Employee Welcome, WASC committee, etc. Works collaboratively with the University's Chief of Communications to ensure all press inquiries and public statements from the president are completed in a timely manner and approved by the president.

The Executive Communications Director also manages, develops, plans, researches, and writes a wide array of communications on behalf of or in collaboration with the University President. Manages and administers multiple projects, including speeches, executive communications, campus announcements, opinion columns; position papers; briefings; podcast, social media pages, and content for other promotional or policy-related communications. The Executive Communications Director will be conversant with higher education current issues and trends and is responsible for remaining up to date with such information. Maintains editorial content on the Office of the President website, and maintains an editorial calendar. Produces original written materials including researching, conducting interviews, fact-checking, and editing. Other duties as assigned.


Essential Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in related, applicable field and a minimum of five years of related professional experience researching, writing, editing, and proofing diverse editorial content, sometimes within highly condensed timeframes. Demonstrated ability to adapt writing to reflect the character, voice, and expressions of another person (e.g., an organization's chief executive). Experience in, knowledge of, and ability to synthesize and express complex public-policy issues related to higher education in California and the nation. Demonstrated ability to understand differing stakeholder audiences and differing content environments, adjusting editorial content accordingly. In-depth knowledge of overall university communication objectives. Ability to work independently, exercising sound judgment. Ability to understand issues from a broad, strategic perspective. Expert networking and interpersonal skills including strong consultative and persuasive skills to work with internal and external constituents. Demonstrated organizational skills. Proficiency in the use of general office equipment, Windows-based personal computers, and appropriate MS Office, administrative, and online content management applications.

A background check (including a criminal records check) must be completed satisfactorily and is required for employment. CSU will make a conditional offer of employment, which may be rescinded if the background check reveals disqualifying information, and/or it is discovered that the candidate knowingly withheld or falsified information. Failure to satisfactorily complete the background check may affect the continued employment of a current CSU employee who was conditionally offered the position.
