Position Summary

To provide support services for instructional laboratories of the Physics & Astronomy Department and otherwise support all technical aspects of its operations, under supervision of Department Chair.

FLSA: Non-Exempt

CSU Classification Salary Range: $3,907 - $6,779 per month

Hiring Range: $3907 - $4583 per month


Salary Grade/Range: 1

Recruitment Type: Regular (probationary)

Time Base: Full-Time

Pay Plan: 12 months

Work Hours: M-F 8:00am-5:00pm

Department Information

The Department of Physics and Astronomy at Sacramento State offers four degree programs: the BS in Physics, a BS in Physics with a concentration in Applied Physics, the BA in Physics, and the BA in Physics, Physics Teacher Concentration. The Department also offers Minor programs in Physics and Astronomy and Certificates in Scientific Instrument Development and Scientific Computing and Simulation.

Minimum Qualifications
Knowledge of the principles of performing support services; knowledge of the principles, methods, and techniques related to the discipline and the curriculum; knowledge of the materials and supplies in the curriculum and the curriculum and their uses. Ability to plan, organize, and schedule activities; ability to operate technical equipment related to the discipline; ability to maintain records; ability to adjust and perform simple maintenance of technical and scientific equipment. and Experience: Equivalent to three years of experience providing instructional support services for a related unit or discipline, or in producing materials or supplies or repairing equipment in a discipline related to the area to which assigned. or Equivalent to two years of college with 16 semester units in courses involving extensive use of materials, supplies, or equipment and in a discipline related to the area may be substituted for one year of the required experience. or Equivalent to four years of college with 16 semester units in courses involving extensive use of materials, supplies, or equipment and in a discipline related to the area to which assigned may be substituted for two years of the required experience.
Required Qualifications
1. Evidence of ability to organize, maintain, and provide lead work direction to student assistants in the Physics and Astronomy Service and Demonstration Centers. 2. Experience with computerized data acquisition and instrument interfacing. 3. Evidence of ability to work with the Department Chair and faculty in generating requisitions and monitoring the budget. 4. Evidence of ability to provide support services for upper and lower division physics & astronomy laboratories and projects. 5. Evidence of skill in basic electronics, basic measuring devices and procedures, and common physics laboratory instrumentation. 6. Evidence of ability to maintain effective working relationships with students and instructors, provide technical assistance to instructors and students, and deal with urgencies that arise in instructional support services. 7. Evidence of ability and interest in construction, assembly, calibration, troubleshooting, and minor repair of laboratory and scientific equipment, an in learning about new equipment. 8. Evidence of ability to communicate, organize, schedule, provide lists and summary reports, and use common computer applications.
