Job Responsibilities:

The Citadel, The Military College of South Carolina is accepting applicants for a Deputy Chief Information Officer in the ITS Department. As a member of the Chief Information Officer's staff, the Deputy CIO participates in executive-level decisions and development of strategies and budgets to achieve the objectives and goals to best support the mission of The Citadel.

Duties:
  • Responsible for working with vendors on technology acquisitions, reviewing contracts, and approving invoices.
  • Will oversee and coordinate with Information Technology staff and other Citadel officials on the development of specific project plans and timelines; monitors and reports on progress; and develops and builds teams within and across groups.
  • Assists the Chief Information Officer (CIO) in the strategic planning, management, and direction of IT programs, services, and policies.
  • Significant budget management responsibilities; manages an annual operating and capital budget for the Information Technology department.
  • Performs project management responsibilities, including developing logical and efficient project plans, establishing priorities, monitoring and managing task completion, anticipating and avoiding problems, and working collaboratively and cooperatively with team members and user groups to ensure project accountability.
  • Provides leadership in evaluating complex technology strategies and developing strategic approaches that maximize resources while bringing the best results.
  • Develops and maintains best practices and standards in process, design, architecture, and operations of information technology.
  • Maintains the highest standards in technology acquisition practices, including developing lasting relationships with the technology vendor community.
  • Leads technology refresh efforts. Identifies information technology issues and opportunities, analyzes problems and alternatives and develops sound conclusions and recommendations.
Minimum Qualifications:

A bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Business Management or related field AND/OR a minimum often (10) years application development and systems analysis experience required. A minimum of five (5) years’ experience leading a large software development, network OR has served teams within a complex public or private environment. Must be able to work occasional evening, weekend and holiday work. Some overnight travel required.

Preferred Qualifications:

Project management certification, and leading and managing successful IT efforts within a government setting is highly desired.
