Assistant Director, Engagement & Development

Job Description Summary:
Under the direction of the Assistant Vice President for Alumni Engagement and the Associate Vice President of University Advancement and Campaign Director the incumbent will have two primary responsibilities. Working in partnership between University Advancement and the Division of Athletics, this position will implement and manage the leadership athletic fundraising program, with in partnership with the athletic director, coaches and alumni community. The other will be responsible for excellent customer service, communications and relationship building with our alumni and campus partners via email and social media, as well as provide strong leadership and precise execution of alumni focused events, e.g. Homecoming and Family Weekend, regional and affinity receptions.

Specific Duties:
Work closely with the AVP of Alumni Engagement to assist with day-to-day tasks for the execution of events (in-person and virtual) and alumni communications. Maintain a high level of customer service to alumni requests via email and phone. Actively monitor alumni social media channels, help develop content and execute e-communications. Professionally collaborate with campus partners as necessary to coordinate details for typical annual events such as Homecoming Week, regional receptions and affinity group gatherings.

Reporting to the Associate Vice President of University Advancement, the incumbent work with the AVP to set annual athletic fundraising goals. The incumbent will secure annual and leadership gift commitments of $5,000 by managing the annual fund campaign for the Department of Athletics; including the high-five challenge, Senior Blanket Night. Will also work with the AVP on building the major gift program with a focus on prospects capable of making a gift of $25,000 or greater. In collaboration with the Associate Vice President of University Advancement and others, the incumbent will formulate, define and implement cultivation, solicitation and stewardship opportunities; identify and engage current volunteers; continually identify new prospective donors and volunteers; and facilitate appropriate relationships between current and prospective donors and the university president, administrators, faculty, and staff. The incumbent will work closely with the Athletic Director, coaches, trainers, and administrators of the Department of Athletics to implement and manage the fundraising plan for their priority programs.

Other duties as assigned by AVP for Alumni Engagement, Associate Vice President and Vice President of University Advancement.

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • Two years of event management/public relations/marketing/communications experience.
  • Must have two years fundraising experience and proven success in implementing and managing a comprehensive fundraising plan, preferably in a higher education setting. The incumbent should be able to demonstrate successful experience and effectiveness in prospect identification, relationship building, and solicitation.
  • Working knowledge and passion for industry trends in multi-channel communications and alumni programming. An affinity for social media posting and engagement.
  • Aptitude for relationship building skills pertaining to alumni engagement and donor cultivation.
  • Strong attention to detail, and the ability to handle and prioritize multiple tasks and projects.
  • Must have familiarity with college/university athletics and demonstrate commitment to the University’s core values of Ethical Reasoning, Civic and Community Engagement, Lifelong Learning, and Diversity and lnclusivity.
  • Must be able to travel and work weekends and evenings.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Excellent verbal and written communication and interpersonal and organizational skills; have a strong attention to detail; be goal and results-oriented; self-motivated; and possess the ability to make independent decisions. Collaborative and team-oriented individual; demonstrate sound judgment when dealing with a wide range of relationships and situations; and possess the ability to maintain enthusiasm for hard work, changing priorities, and multiple deadlines.
  • Experience in web page design and maintenance.
  • Affinity for social media posting and engagement: Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, LinkedIn.
  • Experience with CRM/databases i.e. Banner, Reeher, Raiser’s Edge.
  • Experience with alumni networking platforms: i.e. Graduway or other.
  • Affinity for graphic design, interior design, set design, and/or event planning.
