Faculty, Tenure Track, Assistant Professor - Secondary Education

Summary:
UVU has the largest student enrollment among public universities in the state, with approximately 29,000 undergraduate students. It is one of a growing number of institutions in the nation offering an integrated dual-mission model that combines the rigor and richness of a first-rate teaching university with the openness and vocational programs of a community college.

Under the direction of the dean and the chair of the Department of Secondary and Special Education, this faculty will teach undergraduate teacher education courses in educational psychology and be a lead mentor for the edTPA teacher performance assessment; engage with partner school district teachers and administrators in clinical teacher preparation; provide service to the university and community, support collegiality, and uphold professional and ethical standards; engage in scholarly activities and/or creative endeavors which contribute to the academic mission of the university, School of Education, and profession; support the implementation of a teacher performance assessment and the accreditation process. Required Qualifications:
  • Graduation from an accredited institution with a doctorate degree in a field strongly related to the field of instruction (or ABD - doctorate must be in hand by position start date).
  • 3 years of successful K-12 teaching experience


Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • Thorough knowledge of and demonstrated competence in the Learning Sciences, and adolescent psychology specifically, teacher performance assessments, and one or more of the following areas of expertise: (a) instructional technology, (b) classroom management.
  • Thorough knowledge of current research, instructional theory, methods, strategies, assessments, innovations and techniques in pre-service teacher education including clinical programming and teacher performance assessment.
  • Knowledge of cultural competencies to work effectively with diverse students and colleagues.
  • Knowledge of and willingness to uphold professional and ethical teaching standards.
  • Knowledge of content and skills required to teach courses in Educational Psychology and mentor students in teacher performance assessments to prospective teachers and graduate students.
  • Skills in managing a productive teaching/learning environment.
  • Skills mentoring prospective teachers in performance teacher assessments.
  • Skills in working collaboratively with students, university and school colleagues, and community.
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to relate well with students and colleagues.
  • Effective human relations skills including working with individuals from diverse backgrounds.
  • Ability to work effectively work in a environment that values exceptional care, exceptional accountability, and exceptional results.
  • Ability to communicate and relate positively with colleagues, students, and 7-12 personnel.
  • Ability to produce scholarly work.
  • Ability to effectively communicate orally and in writing.



Preferred Qualifications:
  • Two years of college/university teaching experience.
  • Earned professional teaching license.
  • Experience supervising student teachers.





Physical Requirements:
Frequently standing, walking, and sitting. Frequent use of fine-hand manipulation associated with the use of a computer. Consistently talking, hearing, and speaking.
Work is normally performed in a typical classroom/office work environment.
