The https://science.psu.edu/bmb/people/cdo5093" target="_blank">Okafor Lab in the department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology at The Pennsylvania State University is seeking a Postdoctoral Fellow to join us in tackling a host of exciting projects. We are interested in deciphering structural mechanisms of events in protein regulation, determining how these mechanisms evolved, and how they are altered in disease states. We will combine experiments with extensive computation to gain insight into these mechanisms. Our lab will provide an exciting, collaborative environment where a postdoc will be able to thrive, contribute to establishing new directions for our group, and receive support and mentoring for success in their desired future career. Salary will be commensurate with the career stage.

Desired qualities in ideal candidate:

i) possess a Ph.D. in computational biology, computational chemistry, biophysics, or a related field

ii) strong proficiency with command line operations and familiarity with UNIX/Linux OS

iii) fluency in at least one programming/scripting language (e.g. Python, R)

iii) prior experience in MD simulations, with strong familiarity with an MD package (E.g. Amber, NAMD, Gromacs)

iv) Prior experience studying protein structure and/or conformational dynamics

v) Prior experience in any additional computational techniques, such as protein-ligand docking, free energy calculations, homology modeling, quantum mechanics, QSAR methods, machine learning.

vi) Motivation to learn techniques described above and others

vii) a record of scientific productivity, with evidence of leadership on a project during their PhD (or previous position)

viii) Willingness to work closely and collaboratively with experimentalists to interpret data and plan experiments

Women and minorities are highly encouraged to apply.

Applicants should submit:

a) a cover letter containing a description of their research interests and future goals.

b) a CV, with information for at least 3 references.

c) a summary (< 1pg) of their previous research, highlighting an instance when they took leadership of a project and outcomes, as well as their prior experience in any of the computational methods listed above.

This is a limited-term appointment funded for one year from date of hire with excellent chance of renewal. Review of applications will begin immediately and continue until the position is filled.
